I have emailed the artist (Doug Henders) with your question and now waiting for an anwer.
I've already had a few email exchanges with him before and his response time is usually pretty fast.

It'd be interesting to hear, but I'd assume he still owns it. I remember the story being something like Prince came to see it, albeit unfinished, said he liked it, and that was the last he heard from Prince.

By the way, there are Polaroids or photos of Susannah, Sheila, and Wendy in various clothes & poses (including Warren himself with a guitar) that Warren used as inspiration and as models. Wendy as the old woman crying, Sheila in her pose we see on the regular album painting, the violin girl pose w/ Susannah, and Warren sat w/ a guitar mimicking the image of the guy with the cloud guitar.

Other images used were Renee Adore (movie star):

Clara Bow (also mentioned in "Condition of the Heart")

By the way, for anyone who hasn't seen it, this is Jim Warren's rendering:

There are some great threads about the album overall, of others haven't seen them:

Also search "ATWIAD cover" and "Doug Henders" and "Jim Warren" for other threads.

^This is not Doug Henders' painting, it is Jim Warren's. Prince had contacted Warren first then went with Henders who did the final artwork used on the cover.

I'll clear my questions with you first.

Well, he/she "is the org". Says so right in the user name there.

edit: I prefer the painted version (the alternate one) to the one that was used. The ATWIAD cover art always felt ameturish, stiff and sloppy.

Right, and I wish iamtheorg had done that, then I wouldn't have had to mock him. But people on the internet getting all know-it-all depressive are just asking for it, so I mocked him.

I'm mocking the fact that he used NES' PAS while being a jerk on a thread. Please read the thread. And it's not necessary to criticize a thread subject like he or she did. Thank you for your input lol.

Doug Henders just got back to me and said that as far as he knows, the original painting is in the possession of Prince's estate.

I hope this answers your question.
