Prince loved using biblical themes in his work, I think it's pretty likely the song is about both without there being a specific correct answer shrug

I read on here that Alphabet Street is about cunnilingus, but it is clearly about felatio, as in B J.

--No, it is about spelling the Alphabet while eating out.

So he's not in the mood for intercourse, he says he wants to watch, so he performs cunnilingus which is probably more work than intercourse? Plus, how does one watch that while doing it? I don't think so, sorry. Let's agree to disagree lol.

Lol, it certainly is one I never felt I understood completely. The whole Lovesexy album is filled with some pretty interesting takes on spirituality and sexuality that is hard to relate to.

If you see Lovesexy the album as a whole (just like the one track cd), you see a lot of ideas coming through. Lovesexy is when you fall in love with not a girl or a boy but God above.

I think the clue is in the Lovesexy song, where he says "tonight we make love with only words." Prince is talking about a more sensual love, a love that relies on teasing and erotic suggestion. But Prince also has a breaking point and at one time during that song his voice breaks into Camille and he says he wants to write his name on your walls, when tires burn rubber in his pants (he gets horny)

I agree about the word game of cunnilingus, where Prince uses his tongue for a marker pen and his partners body for the paper. That is pretty clearly to me. That links in with "i'm going down, to Alphabet Street" the Lovesexy track (I'm gonna write my name on your walls (not quite physically possible, but it is a metaphor), halls of desire. The image of the vagina as a passage, or hall, or box or in this case street kind of scans.

In the end I read it as Prince having "two sides and their both friends" he wants a non-touching encounter, he wants to make love verbally maybe a higher love and then is just in the mood to watch (voyeur Prince is well established) THEN SUDDENLY it was either a game and he wanted a physical love all the time, or Dirty Mind Prince has escaped from his psyche and he has to touch taste and love this woman.

I confess my analysis is all over the place, but I guess if I had to put an interpretation down, it is about Prince making a woman fall in love, get aroused, even climax just by the power of his look and his words (his ambition to be an epic Cassanova) which is why he'll "talk so sexy she'll want him from his head to his feet. Or maybe he wants to do this through good cunnilingus.

I give up! But Prince certainly was a Sphinx with a secret. Believe what you want or as Prince said "Whatever floats your vote." He used to delight in saying the most sexual songs weren't about sex so this could just be another.

--There is nothing to disagree about Alphabet Street is a term for spelling the alphabet with your tongue while performing cunnilingus. He could watch first perform later. How long have you been a Prince fan?
