The official version is that Nicoletta was the name of the girl in the original Purple Rain script. He only changed it to Apollonia when she was cast.

In my view, the song is Old Nick and his S and M tendencies.

The OP's interpretation of the song is perfectly sensible. Regardless of whether you agree with her or not, it's utterly stupid to ridicule her for it. Analysing lyrics should be one of the key ingredients to a good fan forum, but here on the Org certain users will always write off that kind of thing as crackpot conspiracy theories or the ravings of a madman. I know it's only a minority, but this particular brand of anti-intellectualism (for want of a better word) is still annoying.

I admit part of my ego expects others to be able to and when they can't or don't, it is frustrating. Old Nick is one of Satan's nicknames. The singer signs on the dotted line to seal the contract on his soul. What he is selling it for is unknown - maybe just an amazing sexual experience?
