You're gonna have to define masterpiece otherwise you'll get a bunch of different stuff in here.

.

Man what a hard question! Still trying to figure out what I'd pick...

Sign O The Times is the definition of a masterpiece in my opinion.

Prince made great albums after that of course, but none ever matches the greatness of that one album.

In terms of songs it is Black Muse. Way Back Home, Time, Stare and Clouds also. In terms of albums I would say AOA. 3121, One Nite Alone and TRC are also masterpieces to me. Phase 2 is close to being one. In terms of performances it is Piano & Microphone. Honestly, his performances peak is the One Night Alone Tour through the very last show of his life. As you can see, I think his last 15 years or so were just as strong, if not stronger, than his first 15. If there was a weak spot it was Batman through Diamond's and Pearls.

If you need to qualify it with 'I. My opinion' then it's not undisputed. I doubt any of his masterpieces are undisputed.

yeahthat In the meanwhile I'll call a single song for that distinction, and it doesn't reside within the Art Offical Age collection. My vote for Prince's last Pop Masterpiece goes to The Last December.

I think everybody here agrees that SOTT is a fantastic album. All the albums that follow have people who love it and people who hate it. So I think we can call SOTT Prince's last undisputed masterpiece.

Undisputed? Eh... Purple Rain? And even then there was someone on here a few months back saying they all thought Purple Rain was a whitewashing of the black Prince sound they all dug in 1981/82 and really a sellout album.

Let me clarify - I am looking for classic, undisputed materpeice SONGS, not full albums.

For the his last masterpeice song was WAY BACK HOME.

See how different we all think on this. That's why he was so great! For me, it's a 1.000 X's & O's and Look at Me, Look at U.

Both of these songs had that instant 'classic' feel for me.

I miss him...

He was putting out some really strong tracks on the last couple of albums. It did feel like he'd turned a corner maybe. Although there'd always been a few decent tracks per album, it felt like he was on an upward trend in terms of song writing focus. WBH, June, Clouds etc had a different focus, a welcome focus.
