Tambourine This song has kinda been forgotten I remember being 15 and listening to ATWIAD and being taken aback at how different it was from PR and how different it was than I thought it would be. That being said looking back it can't be over stated the size of the balls it took to put a minimalistic drum driven groove like Tamborine on a the follow up album to a commercial masterpiece. When I was 15 I didn't get or like the song. Now I love it especially for the inspired vocals.Prince along with mega talent had guts and courage like no ones business.

I remember the album getting mixed reviews, critics were eager to hear it and most compared it to Sgt. Peppers. USA today called Tambourine a Bo Diddley influenced tune, I don't hear that really, it's a great show of Prince's drum talent. Your point of Prince having balls is one i've been stating for years, the guy had tons of heart and courage. Most artists either get lazy, get nervous about a follow up or just plain get distracted with drugs and the lifestyle when they hit it big. Prince did none of that and defied everyone's expectations and dared the new fans to follow him wherever he chose to go, only a fraction did and the rest lost out.

Yes, love this track. For some reason, I've always seen this as occupying a similar position on ATWID as “Dance On” did on Lovesexy – a burst of raw intensity amidst the colour.
