Not one album after 1988 should be on Prince's Best album's of all time list.. He had some good works in the 90's But nothing trend setting or groundbreaking. 1980 to 87 is his best period of albums.. If u want it can be push it to 79 to 88 BOB4theFUNK |

Not sure, talking about concept, promotion, songs... 3121 era is pretty above everything that followed his later output. |

Two of his 90s albums ('Love Symbol' and 'TGE') made my Top 10.These albums aren't groundbreaking, but they do contain alot of great songs |

You could erase that album from his repetoire and it would not be missed or effect anything.

I must add that 'last great album' doesn't mean anything when it comes to P... it's not a bad thing, just a reminder that later in his career (circa 2010) he talked about just writing, doing tours, records like in the manner of 3121 were necessary for him... he done it all for that matter. But 3121 certainly shines as the last album that was promoted in that big classic way, singles + videos, approaching a wide range of shows (even American Idol) etc. [Edited 2/20/17 14:57pm] |

Common sense does. And intellect does.
Any person that doesn't list PURPLE RAIN, 1999 or SOTT as TOP 10, which many members haven't... Surely doesn't know what BEST is. |

This is turning into the old "objective vs. subjective" argument. Some people believe that there is some objective quality of music by which there is some true way of ranking albums and songs, etc. Others believe there is no such measure and hence there is no difference between "best" and "favorite". I'm in the latter camp. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you! |

I'd like to know if any orgers who are placing Prince's 90s/00s/10s albums above his 80s releases on their top ten lists were Prince fans during his heyday in the mid 80s. If they were, I'd find that fascinating. Not at all wrong of course, just something you rarely see.

Since 1983...Although the only one I placed above some of them is Emancipation at number 5. [Edited 2/20/17 16:05pm] |

I doubt they were around then. That dude who is creaming himself over Symbol album said he would give up half of his 80s output for that one. He is 28-30. There ya go. |

Seven albums on your list and all of your top four are still from the 80s so that's not really what I mean. I'm talking about lists like this one:

Hadn't thought about this, but maybe this applies to me. I got into Prince in 1989, just after his golden era. Age probably does play a role in this, but I think the fact that Prince albums really take on their own unique little identities makes it understandable that there is diversity in these lists. Albums like Lotusflow3r have a lot of character, and I can see how it could be someone's favorite.

Same here. I think that no artist, album, song etc. is above criticism and that no artist, album, song etc. is beneath appreciation. I wouldn't put those albums ahead of Purple Rain or Sign o' the Times, but if someone else does, why should I begrudge them?
