PRINCE ALBUMS RE-ENTER CHARTS

With the recent Grammy's tribute by Bruno Mars, the top trending on Twitter the last few days and the recent accouncement of his catalouge back on all streaming services... He has many albums climbing the iTUNES charts and according to Hits Daily Double, will have multiple albums back on the BILLBOARD 200 chart next week.

THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE - #36

PURPLE RAIN - #41

THE HITS/THE B-SIDES - #86

PRINCE 4EVER - #128

1999 - #136

SIGN O' THE TIMES - #140

Odd the 4ever is not selling as well as 2 other compilations.

It;s not that odd--if you type "Best of" "or "hits" into a search box (as someone wanting a hits collection would do), the other collections will be what comes up. 4ever doesn't include those words.

I'd call it a shame, not odd.

The Hits/B-Sides is the way to go, but then 4Ever if the first is cost prohibitive. The Very Best Of was just a lazy quickbuck way of discouraging Prince from releasing A Celebration to keep the WB recordings and era fresh in people's minds.

Listen2Prince !!

U can listen to a different Prince project every week for a year! Sometimes U might have to double (or triple) up on related albums to make it fit, tho.

.
BINGO!
Someone needs to clue WB in to add the words "40 hits" or something like that).

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Great News biggrin I hope the younger generation discovers the Genius that we all know!

.

I think streaming the music after his death is the way to reach the kiddos!

.

But even the older generation only know the hits.....

I hope they put it all out there...so much to discover for the non-fans/newbies cool

As much as I love the Purple Rain album, would love 2 c 1999 and Sign O' the Times chart higher. Great prices 4 both double albums at $6.99 each this week on iTunes!

Glad it happened. Some friends said that 4Ever is a lot worse than the others. So, it´s better that non fans have access to them

WSJ had an article last week that the streaming services are worth another 25 million to the estate this year

How would the WSJ know that when the deal was not in place at that time. Streaming services pay out pennies in royalties. I hope a lot of money was paid up front but I am doubtful.

4ever is doing great though. It's been selling consistently.

Rank - Estimated 2017 Sales - TITLE - Artist ( Estimated Total Sales )

59 - 22,000 - 4EVER - Prince ( 89,000 )

89.000 total copies sold so far.

Not bad... To sell almost 100,000 copies in this day is actually quite impressive...

I bet the worldwide sales total serpass 100,000.

So 4EVER outsold PLECTRUM ELECTRUM, PHASE 1 & PHASE 2.

According to the FORBES article, Prince made $25 million off album sales alone, not including streaming or any figures from TIDAL...

It was just I-tunes chart, right ?

.

Because this week, 4EVER is only #189 in the Billboard, and it's his only album in the chart.

4EVER was certified at 60.000 ex in the uk, on the 23th december. It sold almost the same amount as Lady's gaga Joanne (before the Superbowl, of course), which sold 80.000 ex in 2016.

.

So I would say that 4EVER is in the UK is now in the range of 85/90.000 ex for sure !

.

It was a good seller in the Netherland (one of the top 10 market worldwide) peaking at #10 and charting 5 weeks in december in the top 20. So I think it sold there about 15.000 copies.

.

In france, despite a massive promotionnal campaign, it sold less than 10.000 copies.

.

WHo knows if it sold well in Japan ? That's the big unknown. https://twitter.com/serpa...080754689.

.

Worldwide, I would say that 4EVER sold between 230/250.000 as of now.

Dutch iTunes atm:

49 4EVER

122 Ultimate

142 The Very Best

.

Sign O The Times is only € 4.99 now, would expect it to be in the top 200, especially because it turns 30 this year. (The single was released 30 years ago today!)

Doesn't sound like a terrible amount, but I'd be interested to hear what other similar compilations have sold, such as Bowie's latest one.

Yet THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE has sold the best... Over 2 million in the U.S. plus the 900,000 just since Prince's death.
