Prince gets three Topps Trading Cards It's been interesting with the Topps Trading Card company. The artists have been hard at work....extremely hard at work, apparently, for there have been exclusive (and expensive!) cards for "FLASH sales" for only 24 hours after events in politics (all the Trump headlines, characters, etc.) They have centered expression through their iconic Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, as well as the Classic Wacky Packages line. They have also overnight released artwork following other headline events such as last week's Grammy's. They're available for a few hours longer. The group of 19 cards was/is made available for one week only to end Feb 20. I've been Garbage Pail Kids fan since the 80's! So come last Monday, I saw they released a special set of 19 cards about the Grammys, which they parodied calling them the "Shammys." I was so excited to see Prince got two cards AND a Wacky Packages. And they are not distasteful as GPK cards have been known. In this case, they are just fun humourous cards, and I can feel the love of Prince coming from the GPK artists through their art work. The details in Prince's symbol guitar and attention to his icons associated with him, and of course the beautiful Purple airbrush shades, make this a fun cute card to collect. (The David Bowie ones and the George Michael ones are cool, too. Gaga, Chance the Rapper, Adele, etc as well.) I just wanted to share this unusual fun Prince news with you......

One of the most revolting and shoddily conceived displays I've ever seen. Who drew these, some 6th grader doodling on his Trapper Keeper?

They're garbage, especially the one with three eyes. It's gross. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I kind of like them. It looks like a fan helped design them. I mean they are little kid product, but they aren't offensive.

Hate the garbage pail kids one, but love the Prince "I would draw 4 U."
Prince was never ugly, the head is egregious, and I had to think for a couple of seconds about the third eye (3rd eye girl etc), it just looks heinous.

The top 2 cards are creepy.
The bottom 1 is nice, but I dunno...

It's a take on his third eye girl glasses look. . They're garbage pale kids they're MEANT to look at least a bit gross, this is SUPER tame and clearly meant to be respectful whilst still being on brand.

It fits perfectly within the Garbage Pail Kids world. I was a big collector when I was 9. Used to import the US cards to the UK because they were different and bigger The gum always tasted horrible though.

I actually dig the Lets Go Crazy for Crayons pack with eight different shades of Purple. I would buy it...

A cloud is covering the "Garbage Pail Kids" logo. Makes it look like a knock-off product trying to imply that it's legit. . And did they have to make Prince look fat?

This the stuff Universal is suppose to be taking care of. I swear Prince did a better job handling this on his own.

This is clearly meant as a parody and would be protected. None of the other likenesses mentioned in this set (Bowie, Adele, George Michael, etc) will be able to sue either. It's like saying MAD Magazine couldn't sell magazines with celebrity likenesses in them. I don't think this is the same as people selling copyright protected photographs or album artwork on bootleg t-shirts. . GPK usually mock their subjects...these seem pretty loving and respectful to me.

And then that leads to all entities sharing a joke about or parodying any person. [Edited 2/20/17 16:49pm]
