WB Press Release: Two Albums of "Previously Unreleased Music From The Vault"??!! WHAT COULD BE IN THAT???

I think most of us assumed that the b-sides, extended singles would be in the PURPLE RAIN Deluxe release, right, but all of that is already released music...what could be on these two additonal albums???

I find the use of the word 'albums' rather than 'discs' rather puzzling. Could it mean albums which were not related to purple rain? As much as I'd like to get an official release of Dream Factory, or something new altogether, I'd like this to be about Purple Rain and nothing else. Outtakes from the era, not 'Eye Wonder'(as much as I love that one).

I hope that they aren't the 2017 equivalents to Kamasutra and The Truth, to pad an overdue and underfed premium special edition release. Or random jumbles of common outtakes, perhaps obtained from non-master sources. Or material left over from 1998's Roadhouse Garden or 1999's O4FS.

.

They most certainly will have little to do with the true Purple Rain era or sessions, *if* they aren't comprised of demos, or alternate or extended takes, or non-studio recordings.

Has anyone done the math to see if the entire Purple Rain album, plus b-sides and 12-inch versions of the singles would fit on one cd?

The fact that they called it "Prince music" could mean songs by The Time, Vanity/Appolonia 6, Jill Jones and Shiela E that Prince wrote and played on, but not sang. Any reasonable deluxe issue of Purple Rain should include Sex Shooter, Jungle Love, The Bird and the instumental version of God. Beyond that, I know there are Appolonia 6 outtakes, like Manic Monday.

If it indeed all Prince on these 2 "albums" they could easily put together an alternate Purple Rain album with extended versions of Computer Blue (take your pick of versions), Darling Nikki, Beautiful Ones.... Thoses are the three we KNOW have unreleased longer versions. You could do a whole disc on different versions of Computer Blue!

Is there a studio version of Electric Intercourse? probably. That should be on it. I guess we're all hoping for anything we haven't already heard on a million bootlegs. (Moonbeam Levela was great, but I can't say I thought the sound was much better than many of us already had.)

[[1999 deserves a deluxe reissue as well. Many of his albums do---I wonder if that is the plan going forward]]

Perhaps, but more to the point, there is unlikely to be enough previously unknown true Purple Rain-era studio outtake material to fill two discs.

.

Every track on the album has been edited, so an extended PR album as such could be created, although that doesn't seem the type of thing P would ever authorize or do, if these bonuses derive from the 2014 deal.

That would be a good liner notes 'cover story' for padding the release with some 1982 and 1983 Vault material (much of which we already have) that frankly has virtually nothing to do with the film or album.

.

The hundred (or more) tracks he screened for Magnoli were a choice section of the Vault (before it was known as the Vault), and also currently worked on material, as it existed in the Spring or Summer of 1983. So almost anything he had done, but not released, in his career at that point could be counted under that rule.

.

It all will be very nice to have, no doubt, but the odds are that it won't end up being something worth getting worked up over.

This. This is why Warner Bros. press release is a bit of a mystery.

Besides the core 9 song remastered album, the b-sides, the extended versions - excluding The Time and Appolonia, etc., what is known from this era that hasn't been released is largely this:

Wednesday

Father's Song

Mama

Katrina's Paper Dolls

Electric Intercourse

Our Destiny

G-Spot

This is only like half and album...what about the other one half an album + a full album??

What could be on it???

'Our Destiny' is truly an alternate universe ATWIAD-era outtake. However, since it was never completed to satisfaction, having survived into subsequent projects and respecting the additional changes made to it, it would probably count as a SOTT outtake. That is usually how W&L explain it in interviews. If it doesn't make it to its own independent official outtake release eventually, it would be a candidate for a expanded release of SOTT. Even though none of this is perfectly historically correct.

Did u noticed that From the WB press release?

"The reissue PAIRS the newly remastered Purple Rain with "two incredible albums of previously unreleased Prince music and two complete concert films."

What does this mean the Word PAIRS?....= maybe 2 albums proposed by Warner different from the Purple Rain Era = phase 3 and 4? neutral

Two outtake collections, perhaps lovelingly curated as albums of a sort (maybe leftover from 1998's Roadhouse Garden, or CB2), not necessarily Purple Rain-specific-- along with a remastered PR album (which may have a few outtakes or bonuses itself), and two professionally shot concerts, one being Syracuse/P&TR Live '85, the other less certain but hopefully another PR Tour venue/date.

.

I'm curious how many PR shows he had filmed with television- or film-grade equipment? I believe he had most or all of the tour filmed at least 'professional shot camcorder' from more than one angle.

What instrumental used in film?

The extended version of Irresistable Bitch has been spoken about by Questlove. Apparently it's pretty epic!

The one recycled in the fictional PR universe as Wendy & Lisa's 'demo cassette', handed over to P by Jill like a 'subpoena'.

.

From what little we hear of it, it's got thoughtful Linn programming, Wendy's characteristically chorused guitar, and warm Oberheim--most likely a studio recording of the song at length, regardless of whether or not it was recorded specifically for its use in the film.

Come on everyone!!
It's obvious that it will be from the 83/84
Era.. the music & live concerts etc
It wouldn't make sense otherwise.
I don't want to hear his songs that are
New vault stuff..
Anyway, this i feel will be a total
Purple Rain era release

No it shouldn't and I will not purchase any PR rerelease if it has those songs on it regardless of whatever else's on it. In fact, I'd see it as a major insult from WB's part and I would boycot any WB release for the rest of my life if this was to happen.

Dream Factory is merely a work in progress version of SOTT: so much of it has ended on SOTT or Crystal Ball 98 that it can't be considered an unreleased album per se. Besides, there are several existing versions of it, none of which that can be considered final before the project evolved into Camille then CB then SOTT.

The only way DF can be released is either by compiling all unreleased songs from all configurations into an album (which, ironically, would exclude the title track), or by offering digital releases of each known configurations for the enjoyment of the most hardcore fans.

I fail to see why so many people absurdly insist on putting songs that belong to The Glamorous Life, Ice Cream Castle and Apollonia 6 rereleases on a Purple Rain rerelease. Those are 4 separate albums and each of those deserve the deluxe treatment in due time. Not to mention that masters ownership differ for those distinct projects, leaving us to wonder who, between the estate and WB, owns unreleased songs from TGL, ICC and A6, including those withj Prince vocals if they've survived.

Way I see it, 2 albums of unreleased material can only mean proper outtakes: getting 2 albums of alternate mixes of existing songs will only end-up in a shitstorm for WB, and I believe they're aware of it or they would have used "extra CDs" instead of the promising word "albums".

There is no evidence he's reworked any of those tracks, or even came-up with a definitive tracklist, before shelving the project or possibly morphing it into In All My Dreams (whatever this album may have been) but I fear if he did and those get released, they will sound "plastic" like P's 96-01 output. I don't mind the plastic sound at all, but given how unpopular those years are I predict a major shitstorm if those tracks get released as such before or without the original 80's cuts.
