I think equally as surprising is learning that Prince would record a song for somebody and then make a tape copy to send to the artist. He would then permenantly delete his vocal from the original version for the artist to record onto. This was stated by one of his 90s engineers in the remembering prince podcasts. It's been said to have happened to NC2U. This is unlikely to have happened for each and every track he gave to others: he had kept his vocals for Mad and The Funky design at least, that we know. And we have numerous bootlegs with his guide vocals so many recording of those are also likely to have survived one way or another, if only on tape even if the multi-tracks vocals were deleted. Regarding artists outside of his realm that he sent songs to, he would send them a multi-track with his guide vocals, so I fail to see why he would bother to erase his own vocal track after doing so. We also know that he kept his own cuts of Van Gogh and Five Women since he released them after giving them to another artist. Regarding his side-projects it's not unthinkable that he'd sometimes do it though, because if he'd give a song to The Time or or Sheila or The Family or the NPG or Bria, he would consider the song as being intended to be sang by another person's voice, so keeping his original vocals would probably make as little sense to him as, say, keeping the original synth tracks he'd record as guidelines for Eric or the Hornheads to base their horns recordings on, or for Fischer to record the orchestra: for example we have a version of Pink Cashmere with synth, but he clearly never had any intention of releasing it as such, so he may have deleted his guidelines once he received the orchestral tapes. Of course having his vocal versions of all those tracks or the synth guidelines he'd record for horns or strings would certainly be a formidable documentation and I hope as much of it as possible has survived, but we need to keep in mind that the released versions are the "final" product, and therefore represent Prince's vision of what those songs were meant to be, while the versions with his own vocals do not (I'm talking of the side projects under his control here, not the songs he sent to random artists to do whatever they wanted to with). Great points! To be honest, after hearing some descriptions of Wally, I would love to hear version(s) of it. It's good to remember other considerations and context, though. With an unreleased song, we can't know what the "final product(s)" would have been, had he ever decided to release the song.

LOLOLOL...i didnt really become a hardcore Prince fan until after 1999 had been out for awhile... i liked his first two albums immediately but when Dirty Mind & Controversy first came out, i thought he had lost his mind... i remember hearing the ending of "Do Me Baby", and thinking, "What kinda grown ass man says some punkass shit like that after gettin busy???"...but after awhile, it didnt matter tho...Prince was and still is, THAT dude...the years and years of brilliant music and amazing performances garnered him a lifetime pass for some of the head scratching things he's said and done over the years... that said, some of the shit he says on "Insatiable" is suspect and corny too

A&B is one of my favorite unreleased Prince tracks. I'm sure Wally will be a let down. I'll just prepare myself for it to sound like a TC Ellis outtake. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I have now decided that "corny" is a completely meaningless word. I never could figure out what it really meant--any more than I could figure out cheesy.
But I don't guess it matters. I like real cheese and I'm okay with real corn, so I guess whatever it means metaphorically--sure, Adonis and Bathsheba is corny, the end of Do Me, Baby is corny, and The Arms of Orion is a big old plate of cheese on top of corn. I'll eat it.
Maybe not all three of them in a row, of course.
