Having future generations be AWARE of his music through Spotify makes it easier for the estate to license it for films and commercials. His catalogue will be more appealing to studios and advertisers if more people know it. And let's not kid ourselves, licensing will be where the real money is going forward. Not streams and not even sales from those of us willing to drop $10 for an album with "Cosmic Day" on it. |

x 10000000Finally! I don't think some of the people who are opposed to this move realize how much it's going to end up helping his estate. Even if each play is only gaining them a fraction of a penny, I think a ton of people are going to be checking out his music and it's definitely going to add up over time. People just don't blindly buy albums anymore, at least not as often as they might have 20-30 years ago.
Would you rather have potential fans just blow off his music altogether because they don't have any convenient means of listening to it, or throw some money (even if only a menial amount per person) to his estate via streaming? And think of the people who will end up becoming fans and spending money on albums/merch/etc. because of this. Definitely a smart move, and anyone who thinks it's not is still stuck in the old model. | |

My hope is the extended b-sides are there. Previously Spotify only had the album and single versions. While most other artists have all types of remixes on there.

Can someone tell me if this is a good thing? What exactly is his catalog, I mean the guy had 1000's of songs, some unreleased. Can you buy stuff? I'm kinda a snob when it comes to music quality. I have a lot of his music, are there any hidden treasures. Is the family benefitting from this? I thought the estate wasn't settled...I'm skeptical, enquiring minds want to know. ..Hello, who is it?

Well I usually use Spotify extensively because my phone is always on me, so I listen at the gym, waiting rooms or at home or wherever I want. If you only listen to music at home on your hi-fi stereo with your collection of all the music you ever want to Alisten to at hands distance, them this is probably not for you. But if you are at home and want a complete record store at your fingertips, and want to check out new of forgotten music, that's a considertion. | |

My kids suggested that I get to learn iTunes better so I've been watching YouTube videos to organize my P stuff.
Then I think I'll put everything back up to iCloud so all my Apple devices can access everything.
Then I'll just focus on collecting various playlists to keep myself happy hearing my music the way I want to instead of dealing with any of this streaming stuff, or at least until I see the value/benefit in using streaming services for myself...I just don't get it...yet.
Your mileage may vary, of course.

The estate is free to license songs to any media that they wish why do you think he was his own administrator sonething that Londell tore down immediatly but he is out of the picture now and the family will take over one day so I think you guys should enjoy your strand while you can. No, we know basic math. A penny is just that a penny. Maybe there is us a chance the estate cut a good deal but I doubt it. Do you realize that if Tidal sent Prince 4 payments of 750k he banked almost 2 million some of which needs to be recouped by Tidal before the deal ends. Does anyone think the estate will bring in 2 million from streaming alone this year? Unless the estate received a upfront payment which to be fair they do give to the record companies that is not going to happen. | |

I asked my son and he says he did it by going into iTunes Preferences and checked Soundcheck. He says that makes iTunes automatically normalize my music.
