I beg to differ. Most modern recordings are so over-compressed and brickwalled, often sounding distorted.
It's worth remembering that Prince worked fast and wanted to get ideas down quickly, much like Todd Rundgren. Neither would win awards for extreme hi fidelity albums, but that's a huge part of their charm. Their stuff has vibe in abudance.
Plus, the albums sound great. The only one that's ever sounded lo-fi to me is Dirty Mind. And it was good enough for Warners to sanction its release.
I really had banked on the anniversary of his passing being the PR re-release date. Obviously, everything that will be on it was not OK'd by Prince before he died.

I think the average listener doesn't give a shit about sound quality because they listen only listen to music on their smartphones anyway. Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

TraSoul82 said: I'm certainly not looking for perfect, just tolerable. And it's not all the recordings so it throws a lot of the compilations off. I just find it odd that a monster label like WB wouldn't make sure that the sound quality would be top notch. At the end of the day, what really upsets me is that it really hurts P's chances of breaking into mainstream with vault tracks in an age where a certain sound quality is taken for granted by the average listener. I'll still enjoy them because he got a pass with me about 2 decades ago. +1 It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

If for no other reason than they missed a huge oportunity to release something while interest in Prince was at a very high level. At this point interest has certainly waned quite a bit outside of his staunch fanbase. When sales don't perform as they obviously want and need them to, then what? Sometimes I fear his legacy will die when the money runs out which shouldn't be too much longer at the rate attorneys are draining his bank accounts. Back in June when I saw the list of attorney fees post April 21st my heart sank knowing there was no way the estate could make enough money to stay ahead of the legal costs associated with settling the estate. Much less having the funds to create/operate a robust, profitable, on-going Prince/Paisley Park-related business venture. I hope I'm wrong. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

I'm afraid that the main person we can blame for this mess re the Estate is Prince. It was always going to be like this without a will.

I think the average listener doesn't give a shit about sound quality because they listen only listen to music on their smartphones anyway. When a say "a certain sound quality" it doesn't mean "the best sound quality." Engineers today mix with the end product in mind (mp3, channeled through earbuds). I challenge you to listen to a mix of damn near anything and then throw 1999 in there. It will sound "off." On compilations specifically, you can feel the attempt to make everything sound like it was mixed in the same studio and the entire project suffers. I should note that I'm a truck driver and I used to lug a CD book around to get the clearest music possible to cut through the ridiculous amount of noise the truck generates. Prince compilations struggled mightily compared to pretty much anything else. I'm guessing the issue is the source material. Fixing a bad mix is fairly easy. Fixing a bad recording is nearly impossible.

I would love in addition to the general tracks,
and longer version of Computer Blue, the unedited version of Darling Nikki, (added the backwards spoken/sung part on the end) Erotic City Possessed Wednesday the Fathers Song (piano interlude)
I think I'm missing some stuff...

is WB going into the vault to get the tracks or do they already have stuff ?

Why are some people so certain there is an extended version of "17 Days"?? I've heard a fan-made version of one but I've never heard of an official extended version of it. I'd be delighted if one was existing and was released but some people here just seems so certain that it exists.

There's no mention of such a thing on Pvault, that only acknowleges the A6 version. However according to both Susan R and Jesse, most songs were originally longer -if only slightly- that what we ended-up hearing, something that many circlating outtakes confirm to some extent, so it's not unthinkable that a longer version exists. Now is it much longer (it would often be 2 minutes) or particularly interesting (the edited parts were often edited for a reason), if it does exist at all, IDK. There was a time when we we proud to be rebels, when we fancied Prince having one foot in the mainstream only because he had another in the underground, when we were proud that his music was too sophisticated for the masses but not for us because we were sophisticated. Then one day everyone on the org began to wish for Prince to become Britney Spears. Sad. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

No he was not. You should read George Clinton's autobiograpy he has some interesting things to say about WB and they way Prince was treated.
In the end he was right about a lot of things and I would not say that WB is setting the world on fire as a record company right now.
Prince had a lable in place. No reason the estate cannot find a company to partner with to put out music it does not have to be WB either. They has their time with Prince and blew it. Time to move on. They also did a horrible job marketing Prince Forever and AOA.

Oh...finally some official news on the PR Remaster! Thank Goodness! I'll rather they take their time an put out an amazing product, than put out some bullshit. I can't wait to listen to the extended "Hallways" version of Computer Blue then Darling Nikki in crystal clear new remastered HQ sound! I'm also hoping Clair Fisher is also involved with the remaster. Most of Prince's best work had her involvement in it!
