I also hope that June 7 1984 B-Day historic
First Avenue show is on it as well.
Prince at the peak of his artistic powers.

Plus it's right before he got to be a huge star

Not sure how many will agree, but I'd be happy with just Electric Intercourse and the associate acts' songs with Prince on vocals; although admittedly Sex Shooter might be a bit creepy sung by a guy...

A good friend of mine runs a Warner Music company in an influential English speaking territory but I cant say which. Anyway according to him there is little doubt the Purple Rain re-master and deluxe package will be delayed. He said it is not due to Warner indifference but soley to do with the Prince estate being in contest and somewhat in disarray. He said there are a number of claims against the estate (in some cases from "family" members) which until resolved will not allow anyone to release new, un released Prince music. Interestingly he did say the Warner Group were offered by the Prince estate to buy the entire Prince catalogue (released and unreleased) but again I cant go into further detail her as to why the sale did not occur.

FYI this conversation occured cause I raised with him how poor I thought Warner's engagement was in releasing a tired, b grade hits compilation when the PR remaster at Christmas 2016 would have been an exciting, strong seller and far more satisfying for his loyal fans.

[Edited 1/23/17 0:02am]

Prince tweeted to fans to picket Warner Bros about the PR release. Can you ask your friend what that was all about?
I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

I think the majority of them are Prince's vocals.

I was just playing with the movie soundtrack flow...

If I'm not mistaken, and I could be Prince originally wanted something like this

Ridiculous. For one, The Estate has very little to do with this release. And two, it's Februarybut you're going to write off the year entirely?

It's only 3 years this has been announced, canceled and delayed.

Prince is gone since 1 year, and they still can't re-release an album with old archives ? That's incredible.

That's incredible. If by the grammys there are still no official announcement of Purple Rain deluxe with the tracklist and the streaming deal, it's dead.

According to Billboard and other publications, it's been confirmed the deluxe edition is completed and will be released in the Spring, most likely close to commemorate the anniversary of his passing.

The streaming deal was supposed to be concrete in 3 days, with huge promotion...still nothing.

.

For the PR deluxe to be released before the 21 april, it has to be announced at least 2 months in advance...and oh, we are just two months in advance.

.

So if by the grammy there is nothing concrete (streaming open, PR 's tracklist, packaging, amazon preorder etc.) don't expect it in Spring.

Does the Universal deal (with access to the whole vault ) contradicts the Purple Rain deluxe that had to be released under WB ? I think so!

.

It's doubtful that Universal bought the rights for 35 millions without being assured they can use the Purple Rain demos and unreleased tracks material. That would explain why it took so long for WB to (not) release the PR deluxe.

Why do you keep insisting that this thing isn't gonna happen? rolleyes We've already seen an article in Billboard (a credible publication) that says it's been confirmed for a spring release.Relax...it's being worked on now and honestly,I like the fact that they're taking their time with it.I want it to be special and amazing, with lots of goodies and surprises.

You read the news today ?

Universal acquired the rights to the whole vault = that includes the demo and outtakes from Purple Rain.

.

Universal will get from 2018 the rights to the 1979-1995 album = that includes Purple Rain.

.

The streaming deal is officially announced.

.

But, the Purple Rain deluxe is NOT officially announced with a release date, a tracklist, etc. Which is incredible considering there is the grammy in a few days, it would have been the perfect timing !

.

By the way, in only one bonus disc, don't expect too much ! The same disc could have been released 3 years ago, with a booklet with tons unreleased photos, etc. Considering the album was released 30 years ago, and that it was remastered 6 years ago, it doesn't take more than one week to plan all that.

Susan the engineer that the remaster is being worked on in a podcast interview a few weeks ago. She was consulted on it. WB has the license to work on this project. Universal will take over in 2018 so there is still time for WB to put this out before there license expires. Not sure they would stop working on it just because they are not going to be in the picture down the road. I believe they knew their deal was only for a few years so this should not have an effect on anything.

Universal, Sony and WB were all competiting for the rights to the vault. So, in a word, WB lost against Universal. The game is changed.

.

What kind of work exactly is needed for a re-release, knowing the album has been remastered in 2011 (if not in 2009!) and that they had just to pick outtakes already known by the biggest fans or extented b faces ? And all in one disc ! Knowing that Prince's tracks last often more than 6 minutes before being edited for an album.

.

It's highly doubtful that WB will release PR deluxe knowing they will lose the rights 5 or 6 months later. They won't do the job for Universal, with promoting and all. This news complicate even more the things, and they were already extremely complicated.

.

As are the things now, nothing new will be release before 2018.

Even from Universal there is still no word about reprinting post 1993 albums, or even making them available digitally. Now that they've got the rights, what are they waiting for to make them digitally available ?

And what about streaming rights for the 1994-2016 era ?

In fact, everything is still to be continued...

.

Edit : look at this interview from Mcmillan and Koppelman : http://www.billboard.com/...l-mcmillan

.

Not a word about Purple Rain deluxe, and they confess they only began to look into the vault...

The question is this : if Universal is gtting the rights to Prince's 1979-1995 albums in 2018, are they getting the rights to release ALL of those albums in 2018, or will it be staggered over several years ? Perhaps WB might actually hold the rights to "PR" and perhaps other albums for several more years. The wording in the press release is rather vague, since IIRC, it states "Starting 2018"....Also, what is the fate of "For You", since I beleive that was actually released in 1978 ? Will WB still retain rights to that ?

Purple Rain Deluxe/Remastered is part of
Prince's deal with warner in 2014.
So this will be released for sure this year, in my opinion.
All other things have to be worked out...
