I'm not talking about female singers. I'm talking about musicians, specifically mainstream male musicians of the younger generation, not old heads like us.

Like it or not, these chirrens ain't checking for those ladies but they all know Bruno.

Last I checked.......Judith Hill was a musician.

Is there something special about BM that I'm missing? Also when Prince performed with Beyoncé at the Grammys he sang LGC so maybe pick a different song?

Your bias is causing you to miss the point that the person I replied to was making. Judith Hill's fans already know about Prince. Bruno Mars fans do not.

That is why it is important to encourage the direction he is taking and not be so quick to condemn him for not quite being there yet. There are so few younglings even putting forth the effort.

It's not illegal to not like BM but it's no reason to deny his talent either, which is what people are doing. For example, I don't care for much of Bouncy's work but I would never sit here and deny that she is talented simply because of that...it's silly.

LOL, you'll be fine and so will Bruno. comfort

Jimmy has never given me cause to question his judgement and I'm not gonna start now. I am all for bringing the promising younglings into the fold. It is foolhardy not to because as we have seen especially this past year, our beloved old school artists won't live forever.

Since Prince personally reached out to Bruno, what you think of him is neither here nor there. Making a career of whining about him won't change that, bro... shrug

Exactly what your opinion is to millions.....nonsense. He is already improving. lol

Like it or not, the torch eventually gets passed and that will happen with or without the involvement of older artists. That is the difference between knowlege and wisdom. Prince understood that....ask Josh and Hannah, both of whom many people think are also third rate, but he saw something in them too.

Take a breath, and consider this...

No one will ever come close. Everyone on this board knows that already. Debating that point is useless.

Bruno did a fine job trying to approximate what the real genius was capable of. Yes, he should have worn his own look, not Prince's. No, the solo wasn't nearly as technical as Prince's. Vocals were a little shaky. However...

Here's the real point... What if just one of Bruno's millions of young fans is inspired to delve into Prince's catalog becuase he/she sees that their guy (Bruno) co-signs our guy (Prince)? Maybe more kids will pick up an instrument as a result of seeing Bruno actually play. I've been trying to evangelize Prince to my teenagers for years. The best way to win them over is if someone they think is cool (Bruno) thinks Prince is cool.

For me, the exposure to young audiences who have no idea what they missed, make this and other tributes totally worth it.

Just something for you to consider...

and I said......

Well said! clapping

It is very important to encourage artists like Bruno too because there are not many in his generation who are even trying to get to Prince's level and if his example inspires his generation to embrace real music, then we need a lot more like him.

The impersonation aspect of the Grammy performance was a little awkward but Bruno is awesome and I cannot name another young mainstream artist who would have done better.

Young people like him give me hope and make life a lot more fun! biggrin

And here is your clueless contribution....

Judith Hill or Liv Warfield would have crushed Mars into dust.

After which much pissing, moaning, weeping, knasing of teeth and garment-rending occurred on your part, completely missing the point we were making in the first place and spewing the aforementioned nonsense. lol

My tribute would've been a 10 minute retrospective of his career, heavy on the best live performance clips I could find and a video medley of his solos on the many instruments he could play. It would have interviews with people who recorded songs he wrote for them. It would emphasize the innovation and versatility of his catalogue. It would end with the worldwide tributes to his death.

bruno's watered down versions of the guitar solos were elementary, at best

people who aren't musicians are often impressed with mediocrity

and

for me... the only tribute ive seen with any artistic integrity was d'angelo on fallon... everything else has been too grandiose and try-hard

this grammys tribute was pretty lame

I understand what you are saying, but he picked the wrong song, wrong person and wrong way to try out his chops.

First, if you didn't know who Prince was, you would have thought - hey Bruno has a new song out. Nothing about what he did said tribute.

Second, if you know the song LGC...his guitar at the end was awful compared to the actually work. He reached above his level too soon.

I think Bruno is talented and with time will go far if he stays dedicated to the craft, but in truth, that was an awful tribute because it was not a tribute, it was someone playing dress up as Prince, and if you had no idea who Prince was, it was Bruno dressed in purple playng the guitar.

NOTHING about it even honored Prince at all, which is what it was supposed to be about. PRINCE not Bruno Mars.

Prince serenaded Madonna at Paisley Park in 2015. Her Billboard tribute was still shit. Like I said on another thread, imagine if someone got up on stage in a leather jacket, faded blue jeans and sunglasses and sang Faith. It would have been rightly mocked. Bruno Mars's performance was no different. He should have been paying tribute Prince not imitating Prince circa 1984.

As somene who is really starting to like Bruno Mars, I thought his tribute sucked. This was the tribute I didn't want to see because it felt soulless. Get the hottest dude in the game and let him play Prince. When they could have done brillant tribute called Maxwell, Esperanza Spaulding and King. That is why the BET tributes were so amazing, you felt like everyone really wanted to honor Prince, plus if you didn't like the Roots version, there would be another .

Looking back at Madonna's tribute I think she got caught up in the moment and lost it.

I was so disappointed and Ken Rudolph said it best.

George Michael had a better tribute even with the do over.

Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

Thank You Prince
