I usually do not like tributes, no one compares to Prince himself but thought Bruno did a good one for Prince. I thought the symbol was nice as well as the Time being on stage with Bruno. Morris looked like he was crying at the end too. At least Bruno didn't take part in The End show that just aired.

I've said it here earlier, but it bears repeating: you can't have a true Prince tribute without including talented female musicians. There was rarely a time throughout his career where he DIDN'T showcase them. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

ok this is a rant.
I mean come onnnnn....You have to blame the organisers I guess for these lazy unoriginal safe tributes.
What irks me is you have a performer who reached the highest heights in the industry , got all the awards available, was deeply talented to a rare quality , revered, intelligent and worthy to be named amongst the other greats people care to mention. I hasten to add, no one will get to that level in the room at the Grammys. I mean maybe Beyonce, but thats about it.
So why oh why , do the organisers of the most watched awards show seem to think it's ok to go with a ' tribute' consisting of the best act around that they think seems to fit the mould and just let them play one of Prince's most popular hits...and done, that's it, tribute over. lets move on to the current crop of wanabees.
NO, This is not what a tribute should be about ESPECIALLY to a performer on Prince's level. The Tribute should've been the most memorable part of the show because a tribute is meant to make people aware of Who Prince was and why he was so talented, to the many people watching who probably didn't have a clue about him. A Tribute is not just for the people who knew about Prince, and even then Why choose predictable songs he did EVERY SINGLE TRIBUTE.
I'm glad The Time performed, that was fitting and proper, I like Bruno, he's talented no doubt, but to have the spotlight on him playing a basic solo when many people would look at it thinking it was the shit , when Prince could've played a solo 100 times better, was just pointless and not a tribute but a egotistal attempt to say , look at me I can play a bit of a Prince song on the guitar.
Why didn't anyone think of making a tribute that reflected Prince, to showcase his many talents, to make it original and not substandard. Why not have a few tributes all the way through the show, with clips of Prince doing a solo, or talking about something that is still relevant to theindustry today, or have a part where band members throughout the years came on and played parts of his rare songs, mixing it all together.
The tribute didn't justify Prince AT ALL . And the Grammys is the biggest show with the most time to prepare. The best tribute the BET at least made it different, memorable . Prince being prince would've respected it for what it was and the effort put in.But it did him no justice considering the magnitude of his talent. Problem is the organisers and artitsts care about the present and themselves. Understandable to a point, but prince inspired most people in the audience and his ' tribute' shoul've been thought out more. No good to just say . ok the time you do a few songs, then Bruno will do Lets go crazy. That will suffice...umm no. It won't and didn't

The Time songs were written by Prince - for them. I think they should have done a couple of more songs like "Cool" or '777-9311 as well.

What a terrible mess that was. Both the Billboard and BET tributes slammed this one to the curb. I was surprised Bruno Mars could play guitar, and he did start out as an impersonator (Elvis), but the only thing about that as a tribute was hearing Prince's voice and seeing the symbol. . By the way, what was UP with The Time's awful audio mix? Guitar was wayyyy too high up in the mix, synths and bass buried. "He's a musician's musician..."

All of you hating on Bruno are just a bunch of old, fat Prince geeks who just get tragically PRESSED when you see young talent on display.
EVERYBODY ELSE, media, facebook, twitter, magazines... are saying that the Bruno Mars performance was the finest highlight of yesterday's ceremony.
Y'all just mad you thought he was talentless, and now he keeps proving your butthurt asses wrong. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Get over it, this is the best tribute Prince could ever recieve... BET comes second.

Was that one of those Schecter Cloud guitars or some other kind of replica? In the picture above it looks like a Schecter and the headstock seems to say Schecter but I´m not sure. As far as the tribute goes....I guess it was okay for what it was, Bruno Mars did a good job but I hate that Prince is so often reduced to the Purple Rain phenomenon but then again, this is the Grammys, so what do people expect? I can relate to Andre Cymone´s frustration ...the costume and white Cloud guitar were a tad too much.....but come on, what did he expect ? If Morris and other associates are stuck in the Purple Rain era, it´s only normal for Bruno to play a song off of the Purple Rain album. What did anybody expect? Important magazines still have the nerve to call him "the Purple Rain singer", "the diminutive Kiss singer" and whatnot. I would´ve been very surprised if they had managed to pay respect to his whole body of work instead of focusing on the Purple Rain era. At this point, I´d much rather see a video collage of Prince performances or no tributes at all. I liked D´Angelo´s tribute a lot.

Considering the size of the shoes Bruno Mars had to fill when he took this on I thought he did really well. I can't imagine how he must have felt when he accepted or was chosen for the tribute. Morris didnt seem to be into it or as much as Jerome was who seemed to have a little more pep in his step. Maybe Morris was trying to be cool.

Take a breath, and consider this...
No one will ever come close. Everyone on this board knows that already. Debating that point is useless.
Bruno did a fine job trying to approximate what the real genius was capable of. Yes, he should have worn his own look, not Prince's. No, the solo wasn't nearly as technical as Prince's. Vocals were a little shaky. However...
Here's the real point... What if just one of Bruno's millions of young fans is inspired to delve into Prince's catalog becuase he/she sees that their guy (Bruno) co-signs our guy (Prince)? Maybe more kids will pick up an instrument as a result of seeing Bruno actually play. I've been trying to evangelize Prince to my teenagers for years. The best way to win them over is if someone they think is cool (Bruno) thinks Prince is cool.
For me, the exposure to young audiences who have no idea what they missed, make this and other tributes totally worth it.
Just something for you to consider...
