I had to go back and watch Prince & Beyoncé's performance at the 2004 Grammys and Prince's performance of The Bird at Montreux 2013. Now I'll sleep better tonight.

I thought it was good for what it was. Bruno is Bruno and he never was nor will be Prince, and the Time were great at what they did for how old they are. I do think the BET awards was the end all be all of tributes though. Tonights was a great tribute, and Bruno did Prince like Bruno I felt, not like Bruno trying super hard to be Prince. He added his own flavor to it. Only bad thing I gotta say is that audience is DEEEEEAAAAADD confused confused

I thought Bruno did good, but the purple and the ruffles looked too hokey.
I think he coulda done a fine tribute if he wore some kind of purple outfit,
but what he had on was just a cheap imitation of the Kid's Kostume.

I don't think Bruno was playing that guitar.

I loved The Time, Bruno was mediocre and only reminded us what a great loss Prince's death truly is

It was ok, I guess, but that stupid "dress up as Prince" ruined it for me. Prince would roll his eyes.

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

Lol

Dig this

Bruno never, ever used a gimmick in his whole career AND he never will. Not lipsyncing, not fake guitar playing. He's LIVE.

I did have that feeling the first time through. Then, I looked at it a second time - I agree with you. I do not think Bruno was playing the guitar. I have watched Prince so many times - Brunos strokes did not match in several areas. We will never have Prince again - That is a fact!!!

What the heck. razz lol Bruno plays guitar, people. I saw him do it years ago when I was standing a few feet away from him at a small club. Acoustic and electric.

Shocking, shocking, shocking!

.

That was really bad and really embarrassing!

.

This was supposed to be a tribute NOT karaoke!

.

To mimic Prince, to dress like Prince and to take the piss is not respectful nor a tribute.

.

This will only backfire on Mars and rightly so.

.

This should have been a proper tribute and not a farse.

.

sad sad sad sad sad

The Time were great. Re Bruno...well, his band nailed it, but why the hell did he dress up like Prince and insist on playing (very basic) lead guitar? Just because he can fit into Prince's clothes, it doesn't mean that he can pull off being him.

Bruno trying to be Prince was a very bad idea!

No one can mimic Prince so why did he bother.

It was like watching a Thai Elvis impersonator do Jail House Rock! Just strange!!

.

And why did The Time have to perform separately, with no real stage show or big lighting?

I'd have loved a proper mashup of The Time with Bruno Mars, and maybe he could have done a bit of Prince... but not this!

TO echo someone else's statement from earlier:

Bruno did his thing, but the trap that the Grammy's (and some other tributes) get trapped in is pinning Prince to ONLY the Purple Rain era.

To fully encompass his music and appeal, they could have borrowed a page from the Lady Gaga David Bowie tribute the year before. Pinpoint 5-7 songs that were fan favorites (maybe one from each of the 1980-1988 albums) and showcase the eclecticism that was Prince. He defied labels and the tributes shouldn't be relegated to just one era. SHeila E got it right at the BET awards by offering a tease of a little bit of everything.

So I am expecting "Let's Go Crazy" 2 be popular on streaming sites and iTunes this week thanks 2 Bruno's tribute. 4 those who didn't like the tribute, just keep in mind that this tribute was great exposure 4 our beloved Prince.

Can't believe people complaining about that performance. Did you see the disaster that was the George Michael tribute? I'm not a big Bruno fan but that was damn great. Was Sheila's better? Of course, but you know, chill out.

I have to say I was really dissapointed. Dont get me wrong, Bruno did about as well as anyone could but it felt cheesy and left me empty and sad.

I don't want t hear someone playing Prince, I want to hear and see Prince. I would have much preferred a beautifully done video tribute featuring clips, both exciting and touching, of Prince performing - only Prince can do Prince justice.

Alas that may be the last big public hurrah.

Google won Love Bruno and Morris but I'm not feeling imitations of the Kid and 2017 Jungle Love doesn't compare to 1984 and never will. U had to be there

I'm with you, BET did a tribute, different people singing different songs from different eras (though I think they could have put some later stuff in).

This was Bruno (who was good) singing Let's Go Crazy- AGAIN.

I like BET the best
