Best selling music artist from each US State (yes we Minnesotans are proud)

cool not sure why the map gave Prince such a pukey color though.

Isn´t Kanye a native of Chicago? Why did they put him down south?

Best selling artist IN each state or FROM each state? I don´t really get it. Eminem is from Michigan.

Stevie Nicks also lived in Salt Lake City. Lots can claim her.
I'd have thought The Osmonds or The Killers, even the Neon Trees, would outsell Jewel.

Some of these states have a lot of explaining to do.

I'm especially looking at you, Virginia, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Florida, California, North Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Connecticut.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

This is really cool even tho I'm a little confused about some of the states, but at least they got MN right lol (Except for the obvious miscoloring as others have pointed out - such a gaffe! - he's practically synonymous with purple.)

Go Minnesota.
This list has to be the bestselling artist that is born from the state in question, not the artist who sells the best in each state. Surely, there would have been duplicates of Michael Jackson across many states and I doubt if George Thorogood would have been the bestselling artist in any state.

it would also account for Garth Brooks being listed as the Oklahoma where he was born and not in Tennessee where he has spent his career (I guarantee as a Tennesseen that Garth also outsells Tina Turner here through no fault of my own wink )

Somebody made this up for kicks. Kenny G in Washington? Does anyone in Wyoming even know who Spencer Bohren is? (even tho he is great). Funny idea - yeah they need to tweak the purple!

Yes it's supposed to be based on where an artist was born...or maybe the state an artist/band was synonymous with? For example Timmothy B. Schmidt was the only Eagles member born in California. But if this list is accurate I guess Whitney Houston has outsold Bon Jovi which kind of surprises me.

Interesting, amazed too, as I though Bob Dylan would have sold more than Prince, same with Washington, Nirvana sold less than Kenny Gorelicki.

.

Indiana and Michigan I am not surprised at all. cool

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

As far as I know, they're both in the same range. Something around 100 million records. I'm sure there's someone here who has all the statistics.

I know he's from Minnesota but because he spent the majority of his professional career outside of the state I've never really treated him as a Minnesotan. lol

And Timothy B. Schmidt wasn't even an original member of The Eagles. For groups where members are born in different states, it must be the state where the band formed and was initially based. I looked up another band at random, Everclear, and at least two of the three original members were born outside of Oregon, but Portland is where they all met and lived when they formed the band.

Kanye was born in Atlanta and Eminem was born in Missouri so the map is correct.

This map is so random then. Some are born in the state, some started their career in the state.

Oh, COME ON! Backstreet Boys cranked out some solid 90's/00's gems in their heyday lol ... I think Nebraska needs to try harder to cultivate some hit makers.
