Starfish & Coffee '95

Curious about this.. anyone any idea why Prince revisited this track and re-recorded it in 95?

Seems like an unusual thing to do.. Obviously at the time he put down tracks he toyed with different versions of them - the whole SOTT/Crystal Ball period springs to mind - but to go back to a track that was nearly 10 years old doesn't seem to be typical of him?

If anyone has any views/info I'd be pleased to hear them..

do you mean the one for Muppet's tonight?

seems there was a project to celebrate the birth of their child called "happy tears" which was canceled for obvious reasons.

That's exactly what I was going to ask.

I always thought the 'Happy Tears' thing was just a plausible theory. The outro is a bit dark musically for the concept of Happy Tears, not that it means much.

Listen2Prince !!

U can listen to a different Prince project every week for a year! Sometimes U might have to double (or triple) up on related albums to make it fit, tho.

Everyone is right about the dates, though. It was done in the autumn of 1995 (oddly, the same time of year it was done in 1986). I'm always 50/50 with the choruses and slightly altered melody. Maybe it's just because I am so used to the SOTT version. I do think there's a bit of full-circle perfection in that when it was made into a video, or acted out, that it was with the Muppets. It's such an interesting story, that any real life acting would have been cheap. The Muppets were a cute fit to it.
