The video for this was shown prior to the Ultimate Live Experience concerts in 1995 on the video screens in the venue. (Brabanthallen, Den Bosch in my case.) It was a loop with Empty Room, Same December, Zannalee and 18 & Over, all of which were new to us at the time. I wish he'd done this more often, show videos of unreleased songs before a concert!  | |

I remember watching those and thinking how great Empty Room sounded, booming over the P.A. The beat sounded a bit like Question of U. Those were the days! And the last time he came to my hometown. |

The 2013 to 2015 versions are amazing as he ad-libs loads over the track and gets the audience to chant. . Probably the best known and best loved 'unreleased' track. .

Discovered it relatively recently myself. The 2009 Montreaux performance kills me. Every time. The guitar solo breaks my heart. |

I love this song. My favorite version is the live concert version he played in Zurich in 2011. There used to be a clip of just this performance of Empty Room on YouTube, but as far as I can tell it was taken down over the summer, unfortunately. I would watch it over and over. It's such a beautiful, haunting song, and he performs it here with incredible emotion. I checked it another time and it was still up there, but the video was of the entire Zurich concert, so you really had to search for it. He plays it around the 1 hour mark, I think..not sure. The last time I looked for it I couldn't find it at all (not this version, anyway). If anyone knows where else I can find it, please share. He's wearing all black in it (not white or red like the other concert versions I've seen). I hope this song (and this version) winds up on a future release. I would really like to have it. It's definitely sad that there are so many gems out there that may never see the light of day. | |

Love this song! My favourite version is the one from Montreux 2009. It has a stunning heartwrenching guitarsolo. Just amazing. Also his facial expressions are like he's in another place and time for a moment The end the clip was cut abrubtly unfortunately. Empty Room was going into to Elixer after that. I love how these two songs 'melt' together. Elixer is also up on YT but as an individual track now. I'd listen to live versions of them any day over something like Cream (I don't know why he loved that song so much). Paisley Park is in your heart

I found a 2014 3rd eye girl version (audio) and it's nice but very quiet. I'll take 2009 anyday. Especially with the great visuals. I also love how at Montreux he melts right into Elixir. He does a very good job on that song there - very much the consummate entertainer with the pinky sticking out and all. | |
