What I hope is on it, and what I "think" will be on it are completely different.
I think it will be all of the music that's in the movie -- a "true" soundtrack.
I am hoping for extended versions -- especially of Computer Blue -- and B-sides.
I don't care too much about including Electric Intercourse, but anything above and beyond is appreciated!
I do not understand why people have this notion that it should be a soundtrack and that the associated artists songs will be on it comes from. It makes absolutely no sense to me particularly if one considers the complexity of the rights involved (we have NPG Records songs, WB songs and an Dez song involved). I'm willing to make a selfie of myself with 2 carrots and one leek in my mouth and post it on the org if it ever happens.

Cool, I look forward to seeing that picture! To qualify, how many of the associated artists' songs need to be on the deluxe edition?

Maybe it'll just a re-issue of the first LP of Strange Tales From The Rain.......

The Time's versions of JL and TB, A6's version of SS and DD's version of Modernaire would qualify. I honestly do not believe u'll ever c that pic, but if I lose I'll do it [Edited 12/9/16 3:31am] |

Right on - good fun.
To be clear: I would'nt want those songs interjected into the original sequence of the Purple Rain album (following the movie order) either. Also, I don't want the extended versions of Prince's songs to replace the originals on the main disc. In that regard, you and I are agreeing that the "album" is sacred as it is.
Ideally, to me:
Disc 01: Original album, remastered, uncensored Disc 02: B-Sides/unreleased Prince music/associated artists

We're cool if this is what YOU want but what puzzles me is why ask for the stars when u can have the sun.
What about remastered deluxe editions of Ice Cream Castles and Apollonia 6 instead of putting those songs on PR?
As for Modernaire it's an orphan song, yes, but there must be some sort of songs for other artists compilations project that can be thought off in order to include those. |

i think everyone was ok with that, since it was mentioned by several people working on it.
but since warners has now announced the remaster to be a 2 disc set including unheard material, it's pretty normal for people to start wondering what will be on it, no?

Just please subtitle it (Fan Made) or something. The community is plagued by unofficial remixes being touted as legit. While some are cool, they aren't really a part of the body of work. Listen2Prince !!
U can listen to a different Prince project every week for a year! Sometimes U might have to double (or triple) up on related albums to make it fit, tho.

I know, but it souned really good and I only listened to it better after databank had it's doubts about it. and he was right. there was a bit of "orgasm" in it so I wasn't really aware of this. so don't shoot me everybody I did it with best intentions |

Of course its fake, but I'm betting there has to be a longer version in the vault. Nearly everything Prince was producing at that stage had a non fade/natural ending, and the only version of 17 Days we've got fades out.
Bare in mind it was also tracked for the second vanity 6 Album, they tended to be 5-7 minute songs, all with natural endings (Vibrator, G Spot, Wed Dream Cousin). 17 Days could even be faded out early to avoid a previous seque.
I think its a question of, not if there is a longer version, but how long it. Could be 20 seconds, but I'm desperately hoping there are another 2 or 3 minutes akin to She's Always in My Hair.
Might just be wishful thinking. . |

At the very LEAST yes, those fakes should be labeled/titled as "fanmade" if people really want them to make the rounds.
Honestly any fan interested in having it can make it themselves in 5 minutes with Audacity, it's just looped. |

I think the wording of the WB press release has caused the speculation, but it was reported that Prince turned in an album of new or unreleased material with the Purple Rain remaster and this second disc could be it. Whether that second disc has any connection to the Purple Rain album or recording sessions is unknown, though Prince did indicate in 2014 that no additional material would be included on the album. |

No exact release date announced officially....only a supposed window of release around 1st half of 2017.....so until this time.....the thing might be pushed back or cancelled!
And for the unheard material if this project see the light of day.....maybe we will be hugely DISAPOINTED !

I reckon it will be b-sides and the songs from other artists from the movie.
Hope it will be different but I doubt it very much.
Finger crossed for electric intercourse because prince played it around the time of negotations. [Edited 12/10/16 7:08am]

The rights are not insurmountable to figure out, "Modernaire" is the only one that might take some more complicated doing. And in the end, even though Dez released it - Prince wrote it. It just depends on who the official copyright holder is and who registered it. Universal now holds the legal distribution rights so it will depend on what they and WB work out as far as the deluxe edition goes or if it will even stay in the form that it was supposed to have come out in a few years ago.
But as someone else said, this is all fantasy. Nobody here has a say in what actually happens, so why be a jerk about it?
...
.
I'm totally baffled to learn that Prince actually wrote Modernaire. I've checked Princevault and indeed it says so. Borisfishpaw's list of Pince songs from HQ.com clearly says P only produced it and when I doubled checked Pvault about it years ago for the discog entry (which I'll have to modify) it said P had only played on and produced it. When and how did this info surface?
[Edited 12/8/16 9:25am]

You are right to be baffled. Prince did NOT write Modernaire. Prince was always screwing around with songwriting credits in the liner notes for his proteges, because album insert credits are not tied to royalties.
.
To get the true songwriting credits, you have to look at ASCAP:
https://mobile.ascap.com/aceclient/AceWeb/#ace/search/title/modernaire
.
Dez actually wrote a lot more than he was ever given credit for. |

Those are also subject to how the paperwork was filled out when it was submitted for copyright. Prince gave song-writing credit to people wantonly, deserved or not, and took credit for their work with just as much fickle grace. In addition to keeping rather poor records in the pre-Susan Rogers era. At this point, only Dez truly knows who wrote what and that is bound to be distorted a bit through the lens of time.
I had left a band in '03 as we were getting ready to go into the studio to record. Four of the songs I wrote and another 3 I had arranged were completely credited to the guitarist in BMI's database. The band went nowhere (and I left because I could see it was), but in the annuls of history and research it's like I never even touched those songs. But I wrote them, one even got some minor local radio play.

Be sure that WB doesn't know themselves what would be on it...
If they had the rights to make something unreleased and valuable on it, it would have been released for the 30th anniversary in 2014, or right after Prince's death, or right in time for the christmas season.
hell, they can't even reprint vinyl editions from Prince's album ! |

I thought it had been confirmed that there was a proper unreleased extended version of this, basically a continuation of it past the fade out? |
