Content Being Removed From YouTube I've been so grateful for all of the Prince content that has been on YouTube since his passing. I truely feel that not having a will was a gift to us, allowing for this breif time of access to video and pictures that we had never seen in his life time. NPG Music has started removing stuff, as expected, so if there is something in particular that you would like to see a few more times before it's removed now is the time. For me the footage of the first performace of Purple Rain at First Ave. and the When Doves Cry Rehersal have helped fill the void the most.

Other orgers have told me that video grabby will allow you to save you tube videos but I have not had any luck. Are there other you tube video saving programs that work? Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Thank You Prince | |

There is a part of me that still wants to honour his protection of work. At first I felt guilty watching what hadn't been offically released. I saw that this window as his gift to us and as it closes, though I am sad not to have access anymore, I will uphold the agreement we had with him to pay for content.

You knew it was going to happen sooner or later. They're probably working on an official channel with videos etc (where they can get paid for them accordingly), so let them get on with it - it's not like all the stuff on youtube is remotely exclusive.

I would gladly pay. Just don't remove them forever. And remember: new generations of fans won't pay, so how can Prince exist in the future?

I hope they keep in mind that young kids are on youtube all the time and they get opportunity to discover Prince. [Edited 11/12/16 11:30am]

WE don't have to pay, they get paid on views and monetising the channel on youtube - but they don't get paid that way if just anyone is uploading stuff they found elsewhere on the net to their own youtube channels. It has to be put up there through the official channel (which should also guarantee the highest quality). . It's like when Prince took the videos down, it's not about being mean - it's about the right people getting paid (and Prince wasn't happy with the amount being offered either on a lot of these platforms, iTunes etc)

It's worth mentioning that the majors and indies under an umbrella organisation have non disclosure agreements with YouTube and Spotify amongst many others, where they get a big lump sum payment which they don't share with their artists (it's not mentioned in artist contracts). Prince wouldn't have seen any of that money - and I feel this would be a big factor for Prince's dislike of streaming platforms, in addition to the understandable displeasure at his music being shared without his authority.

I really like both of your posts and your respect and conscience. It verbalizes how I feel too. I also like how kepurplehunter says "Prince belongs to his fans." It's hard to know how to feel about all of this. I hope TV outlets purchase some of his videos and performances so future generations AND those without money can know Prince too. somehow

Six months was long enough.

I tried catchvideo once, worked fine. A Google search will probably bring up more..
'cause you got to know...how I feel about you babe

Well sure they do. I'm not saying it's ever a good thing that his stuff isn't easily found on YT - it's surely the #1 marketing avenue right now? But my point was just that there are reasons beyond them just being spoil sports.

i've always used atube grabber, the only problems i ever had was getting a version that didn't work with my laptop, usually getting an older version solved that.

You won't be able to save the video if you're using Chrome browser. Use Mozilla Firefox browser instead. And in their add-ons search for YouTube downloader and you should come up with a few. The best one has a lot of good ratings and downloads. I use 3 different add-ons and a fourth one specifically for mp3 conversion. I don't know the names because I'm on my cellphone instead of my computer right now but you can easily find add-ons there that could give you option to download in mp4. [Edited 11/13/16 18:42pm]

Yes, there are plenty converters out there if you do a simple search. Initially I wouldn't even let myself watch the stuff on YT out of respect for P. But then I couldn't stop myself and ended up spending many, many hours expanding my knowledge of his wor and enjoying every breathtaking moment. I've also spent quite a bit of money filling in some gaps in my collection of Prince's music and have room for even more. So I'm begging the powers that be to finally do what he should have done a long time ago - how to share his work properly in a way that suits himself as well as his fans. And the sooner the better please.. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Thanks for the heads up friend, time to get more structured with the ripping. So many filmed concerts and demos/different versions of songs I have never seen before, let alone knew they existed I will NOT pay for any of it or go through whatever crappy websites they try to enforce it with again (usually a total rip-off, unrealiable and shady), so I shall be sharing, taking and enjoying free and at my leisure while we still can. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

Allegedly, ClipGrab works in Chrome, Safari and Opera browsers on a MacBookPro...
Or so I've heard.
