Just heard Moonbeam Levels on the radio

Moonbeam Levels was just played on KROQ in LA. For those not from LA, KROQ is an alternative radio station. The dj explained that it was from the 1999 session and is now available on the compilation album.

Did the DJ take listener reactions to the song? If so, what was the consensus?

I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

Legitmately disappointed in the handling of this audio, during the intro you can hear the some audio bleed through just before Prince starts singing. If they had the master recording they could have lessened that. It sounds like a better recording of a bootleg. They simply took what was turned into them and ran it through a mastering application.

I suspect that this is about the best they're going to be able to do with a lot of the older "vault" material. I suspect that a lot of the classic outtakes that we've known and hoped were in better quality in the vault are actually at their best in collector's hands (or maybe only in collector's hands).

Also just heard Moonbeam Levels on BBC Radio 2 in the UK - the Steve Wright in the Afternoon show played it in full and said that it had 'been released earlier today'.

Just bought the song as a separate track from the compilation. Beautiful song, so happy that it appears to be the 'original' recording, slight studio bleeding and all... makes it far more special. I hope that other vault tracks come out unaltered and not artificially cleaned up.

After years of listening to a bootleg of this it's so great to hear a "master" version. Brilliant song and performance even better now in great quality. I loved his voice and sounds around this emerging time. He was a true visionary even back then. Beautiful song and I cant wait to hear more from the Vault.

This sounds fantastic, no idea what the issue was. I'm listening on ATH M50x headphones and the sound is immense.

It's a good song, but I personal think more could have been done with it.emphasize the hook better, but it's not a bad song. Nothing like keeping Princes spirit alive Right? I'm sure there will be more songs to come from the vault. I don't think Prince would want his music to go unheard. In an interview he stated, someone will release what's in there. As a fan, I want to see and hear all of it.

Hear, hear. I love the alien synths that twist and turn throughout, and they sound more prominent to me somehow. And yeah, his voice is outstanding as well. I love the way he plays with his falsetto during the "moonbeam" part of the chorus. I'm getting more and more convinced that this may be his very best song.

what hook?

Thoughtful, but not intended for all this.

How much more could it stand on the hook? It fades out on it.
