I think people are making too much of this. Tyka was the right person and she did a beautiful job.

The fact is that when PR originally won the award they were there onstage with Prince AND they performed, so I don't know what the problem is other than people being petty.

Perfectly said. Thank you. hug

Yes, Prince died, thus Purple Rain sales soared.

.

But, you seem to suggest that the soundtrack's success had nothing to do with The Revolution, and I have to disagree, if that is what you are saying. They were Prince's band members during Purple Rain era.

.

Tyka accepted the award, and it was beautiful. Let's not pick apart Apollonia or The Revolution; they don't deserve that.

The album won a bunch of AMAs the first time around in 1985, and The Revolution accepted then. That was appropriate. This year is about Prince.

Admission is easy, just say you believe and come to this place in your heart... <3

BrownMark posted on Instagram that it would have been nice to perform at the AMAs this year. Here's the thing, most of the audience at this show is young. They probably don't even know who the Revolution is. There's no way the band would have been given a slot to perform. Should they all have been invited to accept the award? Probably but I'm guessing the show producers didn't give it much thought assuming most people in the audience wouldn't know Revolution band members but know Prince. https://www.instagram.com...Da9x1giAo/ cloveringold85

Yeah and I'm sure if Tyka had suggested the band (who actually play on the album) were there. It would have happened.

Appolonia posted on twitter he does win and she was upset she wasn't invited...

Too bad she felt snubbed. In my estimation, she ruined "Take Me With You" and she's a wooden actress. Move on, Apples.

That Tweet was Nov 16th BEFORE the AMAs. When the whole voting began some fan started something on Twitter by stating she should accept the award. It blew up and other fans started tweeting the same and asking if she had been invited. So, on Nov 16th she was kind enough to tweet by THANKING fans for their love and support and stating she and members of her Purple Rain family had not been invited to the AMAs. She ended the tweet by stating "Prince Wins." Later, she tweeted that Tyka and Omar would be present to accept the award. It was the fans upset she wasn't invited.

Yes, Tyka was ultimately responsible for logistics, everything onstage, backstage, the pace of the show, the performers and the presenters. It's her fault. Got it.

Thank you for sharing that. I figured that they would be hurting. Not so much about not being at the

AMA's but their loss of their family member and friend. My heart goes out to them, and I pray that

God grants them peace and soothes their pain. heart bheart heart

^ That's not really the point. It's the people on the record that are being awarded. Without them there may not have been a Purple Rain. I'm not sure what Tyka contributed to the album... other than having a famous sibling.

Apparently not or they would have been invited. Let's face it, right or wrong, when people think of Purple Rain (album, movie) they think of Prince, not The Revolution.

Ha, just as I'm typing this I got a message on my phone that says Tyka's speech is trending on YouTube. cool

That's awesome that Tyka's beautiful speech has been trending!

Why are we even talking about The Revolutions and Appolonia? This was to show our respect and love to Prince... The main vision behind the Purple Rain legacy! Why is there a problem? When I voted, he was the reason why, not the Revolutions or Appolonia. I'm sorry, no disrespect to any of them, but I voted to show my respect and love to the man that meant so much to me and so many others. He deserved the recognition and his family was the right ones to accept on his behalf!

Having Tyka accept the award on her late brother's Prince's behalf was the right thing to do. I'm sure The Revolution and Apollonia both understand that.

It would have been VERY disappointing if Prince's lovely family had not been the ones to accept the award.

Lets face it when most people think of Purple Rain they think of Prince, not The Revolution. This award was about honoring him. I don't think it makes sense for The Rev to represent him since the last real connection he had with that band was what, 1987 or so?

I agree; this award had a totally different meaning. It was so sad, yet so beautiful at the same time to watch Tyka accept this award on behalf of her late brother. This time, it was to honor Prince. prince eye heart

BET has already given P an awesome tribute.

I'm good unless they choose to honor him with a "Legend" "LIfetime" "Icon" award or some other "pity" award.

Is Bet affiliated with Soul Train? Maybe they didn't give MJ a tribute after he died, and they were rectifying that after the BET tribute to Prince.

It would have been nice if the revolution were invited. At the same time it's no big thing that they weren't, it was quite appropriate that the family were there. Tyka's speech was fantastic.

Tell you what though, we didn't need Rebecca Romijn and Heidi Klum presenting it lol
