I think that Prince fans can be categorized as follows:

  1. Musicians and students of music: these are people who admire Prince as a virtuoso musician who are interested in his skill as a musician and are interested in emulating his work ethic to reach his performance and skill level. They engage in more discussion about Prince's work and are not interested in the salacious details of his personal life. Some of them are likely to trade in boot leg music event though this was hurtful to Prince.
  2. Music lovers whom Prince referred to as Family: people who have supported Prince from the release of his initial albums, have almost all his records, cassette tapes, videos, CD and albums. They attended his concerts and know the lyrics to most of his songs, and genuinely cared about him. I would say that the NPG Club members fall into this category. All music lovers that have cared about Prince for several years who knew his music but never saw him in concert. They are gutted by his passing because attending a Prince concert was in their bucket list of things to do. They are interested in supporting his name and legacy. These fans are truly the Purple Family or Purple Army.
  3. The Obnoxious Fans: They act like Prince was beholden to them. They got upset over his clothes, style, interviews, wives, GFs, side chicks or whatever. They were irritated with him for not releasing more albums. They dissed every protege even though they knew that Prince loved to teach and wanted to develop new talent. They take pride in not supporting any protege's work even if this damages Prince's legacy. One is both horrified and appalled just reading through some of the posts by obnoxious fans on Prince.org. It is sad that Prince must likely read their posts while he was living.
  4. Mentally Dating Prince Fans: These are the Prince fans who fantasize about him and wish they could have had a relationship with him. Some of these fans are seriously in love with Prince and are still obsessed with him. They hate all ex-wives, GFs, and side chicks. They are not interested in any scholarly discussion of his work. They just love the gossip or tea!
  5. The Johnny come latelies: they recently jumped on the Prince bandwagon when he passed. They know a few songs from the Purple Rain album. They ask annoying questions even though they can Google the answers themselves. They start discussion threads without searching for related topics first.

So where do I fit in? I am definitely in the #2 category. My goal is to learn more about Prince's work and do what I can to help protect his name and legacy.

I really like this analysis..

There is another catagory though....perhaps a less popular one...but an emerging group none the less

6. The Spiritualists the seekers:These people have deep and real affection for GOD and are attracted to the Artist as an evolving being, who was honest about his failings unflinching in his faith whilst being transparent about his inner conflict with his Higher and Lower self.THis group of people study his journey and in particular find that his life can serve as a guide on how to use the gifts God has bestowed upon us, to serve and uplift humanity in your own individual and unique way.

I myself am a 6 ,on a solid foundation of a 2 and occasionally a tinge of 4 on account of me being so HOT and all...smile

Im also like FLY an avid researcher and like to draw my own conclusions as a result of that....

ooopsss....Sorry Latin..I did it again !!!!!!

This one is from post #132. I believe this was at the 2011 Sziget Fesztivál in Budapest.

I found this one of Andy Allo on Pinterest. I believe it was from that same 2011 show at the Sziget Fesztivál in Budapest. They have cute little matching Sharpie hearts. I think this is the first time I have documented them both wearing them at the same time.

It was really just a simple question. I understand if you can't answer me directly.

I usually avoid labels, angel; however, I would say that I consider myself a "fam" AND I love Prince...and I intend to do whatever I can to help preserve his legacy.

Well, that's just it.
I asked the question after observing you repeatedly claim that Prince's behavior was the reason for the problems in his former relations with Andy Allo. That is not love.
This is Prince.org.

As well, your assumptions of their relations is incorrect.

But mostly, have you asked yourself what your motives are for doing all this "research"? They are as plain as day to me, but I believe non one has ever helped you see or understand what you do - and why.
Hint: it's 100% selfish.

Angel, research is driven by a desire to know. That is certainly the motivation for my study of Prince's final years. Listening to Art Official Age and HNRP2 made me want to know more about his relationship with Andy Allo. I want to know what happened to drive them apart. Not to mention, I love a good romance.

.

I think it's clear that Prince loved Andy, but he made mistakes. He was human. Andy also loved Prince, but she, too, made mistakes. She's human. In the end, I think they just ran out of time. It is a story of fate at its most cruel.

.

Lastly, angel, let me be clear. You apparently have me confused with someone who cares what you think about me or anything, for that matter. Please know that I am a nice person, but I have my limits. You present as either a mental health professional...or one who has spent lots of time in the company of mental health professionals. I have my idea which story is yours, but I won't say. Whatever the case, angel, please spare me all of your judgmental psycho-babble.

.

On a more positive note, I wish you and yours the Happiest of New Years. heart peace

Good evening, amimissinsumthin. First, on Andy Allo's critically acclaimed Superconductor album, Prince was the executive producer and he co-wrote three of the songs. Andy is a writer on every song on that record. Secondly, I love me some Jill Jones, but exactly when was the last time she worked with Prince?

.

With regard to Art Official Age (2014), Andy Allo is all over that album. First of all, she has two duets with him on that historic album: "Time" and "What It Feels Like." That, in and of itself, is unheard of, and I mean this literally. She also co-wrote both of those delicious ballads. Additionally, she sang background vocals on "Breakdown." This does not include the songs that are arguably inspired by AA, including most, if not all of the beautiful ballads, like:

  1. "Clouds"
  2. "Breakfast Can Wait"
  3. "This Could Be Us"
  4. "U Know"

.

On HNRP2 (2015), I would argue that Allo inspired the following tracks:

  1. "RocknRoll Love Affair"
  2. "2 Y. 2 D."
  3. "Look at Me, Look at U"
  4. "When She Comes"
  5. "Revelation"

.

HNRP1 (2015), I would say, has at least two songs that were inspired by Andy.

  1. "This Could B Us"
  2. "June"

.

I also believe AA inspired P's slightly modified cover of "Anotherlove" on the 3rd Eye Girl Plectrumelectrum (2014) album.

.

Lastly, the acoustic album on which she and Prince collaborated, Oui Can Luv, released for just 12 hours on TIDAL, in November 2015, is really unlike anything Prince had done previously. I especially love Andy's original song "False Alarm" on that record. Let's hope that the album soon gets the wide release that it deserves.

.

In conclusion, most agree that Andy Allo fueled Prince's creativity greatly during the time that she worked with him, beginning in 2011. For instance, within days of meeting her in April that year, and before she officially joined the NPG, Prince shocked the world with a new ballad that some were saying was his best in recent memory, "U Will B," sung live on May 5, 2011, during one of his residency shows at the Forum in Los Angeles. The song, a duet with AA, was never actually released and it can presently only be heard on Andy Allo's Facebook, where she posted it on January 25, 2013.

.

That is not to say, however, that he did not work with others, like Joshua Welton, who, as the first to ever produce a Prince album, other than Prince, is also a central figure in P's final chapter. His last band 3rd Eye Girl and other associates and proteges are also noteworthy.

.

What I am saying is that Andy was at the center of Prince's world, both musically and emotionally, during the last five years of his life. Few would argue that point; although, as evidenced by your posts, some will try. Peace, amimissinsumthin. heart

Hello, FlyOnTheWall. I am cheerfully up for the challenge of righting the false. Truth is the light. I still do not believe that Ms AA is the center. Your elaborate re-hash is now including Mr JW which I introduced as the real creative center. To wit, a quote from and a link to an interview with Mr JW in CuePoint mag (2015):

“Welcome to Paisley Park… I am so very glad you came.”

Like Willy Wonka greeting a child who just won a golden ticket, the brother spins around, lets out a huge Chesire cat grin, and ushers me straight inside…

But — this man is not Prince. Instead, the gatekeeper is 25-year-old Joshua Welton, the keyboardist in Prince’s latest band and the husband of the band’s remarkable drummer Hannah Ford. He is also the co-producer of Prince’s latest album, Art Official Age, but if you believe in liner notes, the biggest musical collaborator the musical icon may have ever had." (Me: Let us find the liner notes). The rest of the interview which includes words from Mr/Dr PRN himself, illustrate the MAJOR impact and influence this young producer was having on Mr/Dr PRN's creative output beginning with TEG and PE album through to 2015.

Even his assistant (being from Ethiopia) inspired his creativity. I love this part: “Like [my asst] is from Ethiopia, and when you go there, you hear so many wonderful new things,” Prince says talking about the tall, striking woman he had walked in with who now sits down next to her presumed boss, a pen and pad in hand." Now, I am assuming (without proof here yet) that my brother has been to East Africa, Ethiopia, no less the source of physical humankind. (I hope he visited Lalibela.) His world and inspirations were expanding exponentially in such a short amount of time. He was operating on a plane much higher and he sought and found those who could flow with him during those last years. Mr JW is/was it! Here is the link to the great article: https://medium.com/cuepoi....kp0h9chfq

Salam.

Thanks for sharing the article about Joshua Welton. It was a good read. The more we all learn about the last five years of P's life and the people he collaborated and worked with, it helps to put things in perspective in terms of where he was creatively and his goals for the future. It is quite glaring that he was actively engaged in creating more music and exploring beyond what he had already created.

Andy Allo, Joshua Welton, NPG and all its awesome members (Renato Neto, John Blackwell, Maceo Parker, Adrian Crutchfield, Trombone Shorty, Shelby J, Liv Warfield, and others -- too many to name), and 3EyeGirl were all part of that creative process. It is not fair to diminish any of the talent that Prince choose to work with and invested his time to develop.

One gets the impression that he had plans for the future, and was not in a shut down mode and ready to pass on. My biggest regret is that he did not get a chance to delve into African sounds and rhythms. It would have taken his music to another stratosphere much as it did for Paul Simon and his Graceland album. As Paul Simon said -- "Africa is the root of rythyms and the rhythms remain!".

I know that Prince visited Morocco -- his friend and photographer Afshin Shahidi photographed him and his band members there. In the article, he mentions the music of Ethiopia so I am assuming that he visited Ethiopia and got to visit some of its awesome historic sites such as Lalibela, and the Church where the Ark of the Covenant is supposedly held.

Thanks again. Let's keep the discussion going and dig up more information. Blessings.

You know Bibrose.,

His all around Wholesomeness is absolutley Unique in the Rock N Roll world he inhabited..Even his much debated sexuality was about Deep LOVING Connection, something the world needs to learn more about .I marvel at Prince, the more I learn about him, the more I understand that he carried a LOT of Burdens, and without ever complaining.

Just the fact that HE was a creative yet somehow managed for the most part to manage his own business interests, took responsbility for supporting many people financially.

I read an article somewhere that at one Point Paisley Park had an overhead of 2.5 Million a MONTH and employed over 120 people....and all of that was on his back!!!!!!

Most people would be super stressed about that, and would turn to Drugs or Alchohol , but what did Prince do..He turned to GOD, He THanked GOD, he depended on GOD and he worked Steadily and Consistantly to help GOds hand..

Cool information about Cherries..

I think the catagories you have made deserve a separate thread....

mind you, I have started a few threads touching on Princes Spirituality and not many people are really that interested...

I even wrote in one (Quoting Myself here )

Prince is the most intriguing personality since Jesus

well..yes..you can imagine I got shot down..

But I stand behind that statement....

bibrose, that is really good information about cherries. I have heard previously about their nutritional value, but I had no idea that they act as pain relievers. I am going to have to read up on them. They are one of my favorite fruits, but they tend to be very expensive, especially organic ones. Of course, money was no object for our Prince. BTW: I also consider myself a member of group #6. Thanks so much for the information. heart

Well said, bibrose. Prince was also a student of Egyptian culture, which is African. BTW: If you have any of the photographs of Prince and/or AA that were taken by Afshin Shahidi, please share them with us. (Those of him and other NPG members would, in fact, it would make for a wonderful thread of its own.) BTW: I think I have seen several photos that Prince took of AA in Morocco. I might try to track those down for this thread. Thanks for your input!

yes Love, I heart your answer. I can sense your genuine spiritual nature. Not to mention your hotness!! razz

Lovejunky and Fly, I would also put myself in #6. Prince's spirituality, kindness, love of God, and his wholesome living resonated with me. I wish he had eaten lots of cherries to ease his pain. I shared this one another platform. Prevention Magazine which is read by MDs published that 10 cherries equals one Ibuprofen tablet. Prevention Magazine If only P had known.

I read an article somewhere that at one Point Paisley Park had an overhead of 2.5 Million a MONTH and employed over 120 people....and all of that was on his back!!!!!

Yes! This!! True Spirituality is something that is fairly unpopular because it demands so much pride deflation. That means putting aside what we want and our need to be right and how others see us...all of it. And in True Spirituality, romance has no Power. In our very codependent society it is very hard to change those beliefs. But with time, Prince dug deeper and found that, I believe. His seeking paid off. I also believe he had some unhealed wounds about loss and abandonment as many of us do, so when people would leave he would pursue. Jill Jones explained this very well. I believe Andy was, as was said here by others, very ambitious - and young - and hence was not interested in a relationship yet. As all the way back to Vanity, Prince responded in the way he always had. I was listening to a podcast yesterday from early this year where the interviewer finally had to ask Andy to discuss her music rather than her affiliation with Prince. Maybe that's why Kirk sat Prince down and suggested Prince was being used. Prince didn't care because he was in an obsession due to feeling the triggers of past abandonments. Hope this helps the picture come together a little bit more.

Angel...

Your response just made me choke up...not sure exactly why...Im going to have to dive deep....

I think Ill org note you my response (after I sleep, its close to midnight)so as to keep this thread on topic ..otherwise Latin is gonna come and WHoop my cutie pie Butt again....

Has the "all Prince songs are about Vanity" crowd had it out with the "all prince songs are about Andy Allo" crowd? Was there a winner?

Vanity and Andy are to far apart in time. The real contest is between the "all Prince songs are about Vanity" crowd and the the "all Prince songs are about Susannah" crowd wink

The wooh is on the one!
