Thank you for bringing this one back to this page, Lovejunky! This was a great find by pinkcashmere23. Prince also performed "Waiting in Vain" at his final Piano and a Microphone show at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on April 14, 2016. Prior to his collaboration with AA on their historic acoustic album, Oui Can Luv, P had only performed the Bob Marley classic once, in 2000 at Paisley Park. Many see its inclusion in what would turn out to be his final set as a nod to the Cameroon-born beauty.

I have not seen much written about Prince and Andy Allo's beautiful acoustic duet of "Guitar." Beginning at about the 8:35 mark of this recording, the two can be heard practicing P's classic ode to his beloved first instrument, well second, after his divine voice. Hearing their playful exchanges (and P's soft conducting, including his gentle reprimand when she misses her frame) gives me chills every. single. time. And, his acoustics are nothing short of sublime.

I really enjoyed Andy demonstrating her process of song writing the other night. I think that was a great way to give and teach. She did it very well, keeping it simple for any age or level of understanding. Prince sure taught her well. I am really missing him today but also seeing on a much deeper level the incredibly giving human being he was. I will never get to have met him on this earth so I will never know like some others do what it was like to be in his presence, but I have some idea of what he was about. His protégés are examples of that. I am praying for them all right now. I believe most of them if not all, will do great in life!

Thank you, anangellooksdown. I concur. Andy is quite the songwriter. Even before she met Prince, she had written most, if not all, of the songs on her first (independent) album. No doubt, her time with Prince took her to the next level, in all areas of her musical artistry, not to mention business acumen. .. And, speaking of her Facebook live stream Thursday night, for a brief moment, when she sang a snippet of her and P's magical ballad "Time," she seemed transported to another place and time, almost like she was remembering quiet moments spent with Prince. It was amazingly sensuous. I think she should definitely include "Time," (and "This is What It Feels Like") which she co-wrote with P, on her upcoming acoustic album. Here's the part she was singing:

This is a great shot of some of the members of the NPG. Prince reportedly announced that his luggage was lost and he was wearing Andy's clothes during this interview in Paris.(Thanks pinkcashmere23!!)
Andy is now wearing that matching shirt and hat in her very somber cover photo on her Facebook.

Great find, Lovejunky! Thanks. It does seem that Ms. Andy is starting to crack down on the proliferation of her performance videos on the web. I guess Prince taught her well. Hopefully, this is a sign that their acoustic album will soon be released.

My pleasure! I have not seen her look this happy since P's passing. For a brief moment, when she was singing "Yellow Gold" and her and P's magical ballad "Time," she seemed transported to another place and time, almost like she was remembering quiet moments spent with Prince when she sang, "Cuz u're so fine, when I get mine, Baby, u can, too." During "Yellow Gold," she crooned, "feels so right, it can't be wrong." It was amazingly sensuous. I think she should definitely include "Time," (and "This is What It Feels Like") which she co-wrote with P, on her upcoming acoustic album.

Another shot of Prince and Andy at the Le Grand Journal in Paris, June 27, 2011. The Prince "funk face" from another angle.

Interesting because in DMSR what Nilsen wrote was that yes while Prince was involved with Vanity (as well as other's), what he had with Susan Moonsie was more of an actual relationship. So I was always intrigued why people felt Vanity was the "love of his life". From what was written he continued to see both of them and it was more Susan who stepped away, quietly and without drama, when he chose to be involved with other women. Anyway in keeping with the topic, I scanned to the end just because I was curious to see if the same 2-3 werre the main contributors to this thread.

Yours is an interesting theory, but, having not researched those early relationships, I cannot speak to them. It would probably make for an interesting thread all its own. .. I did, however, listen to a nice interview with Brenda Bennett in which she tells the story of when she and Susan went, without tickets, to a Prince concert in Boston. The year that this happened is not stated. She gives interesting insight into the head-of-state-like security detail that surrounded P, as well as the layers ("like an onion") that one had to penetrate to get anywhere near Prince, the rock n roll "GOD." .. None of them had seen each other in many, many years. Prince saw Brenda first, not realizing that Susan was waiting in the wings. Apparently, P almost passed out when he saw Susan. It sounds like a nice reunion, but she didn't go into much detail about Susan and Prince's interactions; however, it was so endearing to hear how Prince arranged for them to also come back to his show the next night, just so Brenda could bring her young son to meet (and spend time with P). .. Lastly, I did read/hear another interview that leads me to believe that P did have a relationship with Susan, but I can't remember the source. Maybe it was the Jill Jones interview when she tells about all of them seeing each other again on the occasion of Denise's funeral in the Bay Area. At any rate, the interview with Brenda is still on YouTube. I would post it here, but I don't want to derail this thread any further. Thanks.

Andy Allo Talks Songwriti...and Prince
This article has several video tutorials with Andy, all of which are very informative. She talks "Nothing More," "Yellow Gold," and others, but my favorite is the "People Pleaser" short, when she tells about the time she played the original acoustic iteration of the banger for Prince. As she tells it, within the blink of an eye, the two them were having a full-on jam session there in a hotel room. Of course, P later added the horns and rhythms, and as AA says, it became this great funk song... (Thanks, pinkcashmere23)Play-Alike Andy Allo - Guitar Workshop

Andy says that this song is about falling in love. It's that moment when you realize that this is it. There can be "Nothing More."

It is my belief that the entire Superconductor album is about Prince. And, I agree, 206Michelle, Prince was still fine as wine and vibrant during the main years of their collaboration. [Edited 12/5/16 5:14am]
