Hi Prince,

I believe we all come into people's lives for a reason. You came into mine 5 years ago and each day we spent together talking, traveling and playing music, the more I learned about myself. You taught me how to love so deeply with no inhibitions, but you also taught me about heartbreak. You taught me how to push myself beyond my own limits, how to be strong, how to fight but also how to be vulnerable and be present. You are a mentor, a friend and much much more. We shared a great love, a great many laughs and tears. I wish I had told you more, what you meant to me.

I am so grateful I had the honor of knowing you, the man and the artist.

I am the woman and the artist I am today because of you. I love you and miss you.

They were very sweet...and telling. Thank you for reminding me of the photo Andy posted on her FB. I just added it to her tribute above. I think one should not be posted without the other. They looked very happy. Prince looked half his age.

Thank you for sharing. That was a nice little Prince-like flourish at the end. He taught her well. It just goes to show that, even though she seems most comfortable with acoustics, she can still hold her own with the electric guitar and as a bandleader. She will only get better with time. I think the wrist cuff is also a Prince touch. I wonder if this is the European show to which Prince showed up? I've read that he attended at least one of her shows in Europe.

Thanks for your input, anangellooksdown, but it's hard to get more "recent" than last November, just five months before Prince's passing, when he summoned the press and played his and Andy's Oui Can Luv album for them, while reportedly staring at her photo on a large screen when the title track played. And, speaking of photos, hers is on P's desk in the Galaxy room at Paisley Park. Of course, you could be right when you opine that we are making too much of this; however, I strongly disagree. But, I appreciate your take. On a final note, please have a look at the TIDAL press release on the Oui Can Luv streaming event, held last November 7. It was an invitation. Check it.

IN: Can I get a behind the scenes of what it was like in Cameroon for the first 13 years of your life?

AA: The biggest thing growing up is community. Family is of the utmost importance. You’re really taught to appreciate culture and respect your elders! And really take care of your family first and foremost. My family is very musical. My mom plays piano and my dad writes poetry and sings. So I was surrounded by music and art since I was a baby.

IN: You moved to Sacramento when you were 13, how was that transition?

AA: Culturally it was interesting because of even little things, like how the date is written, or how certain words were pronounced. I had my African accent. I learned the American accent when I moved here because I wanted to fit in. I wanted to be like everybody else and feel like I belonged.

IN: What was the racial dynamic of your Sacramento neighborhood?

AA: It was pretty diverse, it was Latino, African-American, and white.

IN: What culture did you want to be a part of?

AA: It’s interesting being mixed, I didn’t really know where I belong. I wasn’t black enough to be African-American and I wasn’t white enough.

IN: When was that?

AA: That was like, 2000, 2001.

IN: That was a tough time. You had to wear expensive brand names back then. The white kids were supposed to dress in Abercrombie & Fitch and the black kids were supposed to wear FUBU, Enyce…

AA: And Apple Bottoms! [laughs]

IN: Did your childhood travels teach you the skills of being able to move between different worlds?

AA: It was a great skill to be able to move like water and to be able to flow into different things. I was able to flow into different areas of the industry. Secondly, since I was a kid I’ve loved entertaining. It was natural. Being on stage, being in front of people is like a second home. A family friend recently told me when I was 7 I said that I was going to be a rock star and perform in front of thousands of people. I always knew this is what I wanted to do. I loved singing, I love acting, I love dancing. Any medium that allows me to connect with people, it comes naturally to me and I love it.

IN: What did you learn from working with Prince that you could not learn anywhere else?

AA: He’s so incredibly talented and creative. Being around someone that is so knowledgeable and being under his mentorship, I learned about artistic integrity and staying true to myself and taking the time to know “What do I want to sound like? What do I want to be?” I learned it’s okay to experiment and try things. And that’s what I feel I’ve done with Hello. It was bootcamp. [laughs] It was a challenge. It honed me as an artist to take my craft seriously.

IN: So you go from this huge big band sound to singing pop and rock about staying at home and watching TV shows. What caused that transition?

AA: Because that’s what I do! [laughs] To me, that’s what my life is like. All the songs I write are very personal. The songs that are on the EP are my experiences. I feel like I re-connected with my inner child. I feel like a kid. I’m very kid-like, doing pranks and doing jokes. It’s always been apart of my personality — and now I want to share that with people.

She was much more relaxed by the European tour in the fall.I agree. You could tell she had been studying her mentor Prince closely. I'm not sure if he saw her in Europe 2013 but I know he was at the last show of her Hotel Cafe residency in November right at the side of the stage.Dr.Funkenberry even mentioned it in one of his podcasts and how funny it was to watch.He said Andy didn't notice him the whole show and when she left the stage,she was face to face with him. He said they shared a moment before the crowd noticed Prince and then he left and walked back out to the street and got in his waiting limo and took off. Prince did tweet a lot of articles and interviews while she was in Europe though.Hotel Cafe is in L.A. so they saw each other before she left for her tour.

Think that was his SOP since there are photos of him holding hands with the Twinz, Sheila E leaving the ALMA show, Diamond and Pearl, Anna, etc. Having read and followed this thread though, I do think there was something more here going on with them. Hopefully with the passage of time, more will feel comfortable sharing their story with their relationship with Prince whatever it may have been. It would be nice to know that he did find love again were that the case and/or more about the enigma of the man, Prince. Peace

I think that's Prince's diamond band he wore on his pinky back then.She also wore it in the R&R Affair and People Pleaser videos. She must have started wearing it in summer 2012.

Anangellooksdown: Hello, I think it may have been you that has inferred in at least one other thread as well that he was "diggin" someone else in 2014 and perhaps beyond ... Do you have concrete links that you can provide or care to share more information as someone else also asked in the other thread?
