Wow....that was rough to watch. Held it together until Purple Rain then the floodgates opened. I get what he said about his songs being like his "children". My Mother passed this past Tuesday and as I contemplate her life, I realize that I, her child, (and my 5 brothers and sisters) are indeed her legacy. The proof that she did inhabit the earthly realm. Just as my children are mine and their children are theirs. Just as Prince's music/songs, his "children", are his legacy. He really did give birth to them. And, as children will do, they bring us much joy and sadness, too. Death, of those we love, certainly brings things into a razor sharp focus. I just wish that the grief we go through didn't hurt so much. Link to interview w/Tavis Smiley in 1998 where he describes his songs are "like his children" (7:45 mark): https://youtu.be/pqyjwhFiQqg "Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence......." ~ DESIDERATA ~ Max Ehrmann | |
