LoveSexy Era: Why Does He Look So Different I've been trying to put my finger on why Prince looked so different during the LoveSexy era....No facial hair? Thicker eyebrows? Different makeup? I can't put my finger on it, but it's something. What do you think?

Well that just took the fun right out of it. If you look at all the 'Different" parts and compare them to early and later pictures the parts look very similar. I guess all together it just looks so...off

Thanks for the laffs at this tragic time in human history, we need it!I love his look during that era lately. The photo with the dark blue suit is one of my favorites. Yes I think it's different eyebrows plus less facial hair but also long blown out/wavy hair. Sometimes I'm amazed too at how different he looked during different eras - yet somehow the same all throughout his life. | |

I agree with you. I said 'Off' earlier, but I mean more like of all the era's this one is very stand out for me. But look at him during Graffitti, long blown out hair, TOTALLY different

It was the first time he went about facial hair and his was not piled in his head two feet high. It gave him a different look. I think he looked better with facial hair. | |

I may be wrong, but didn't he start changing his diet around that time, towards vegetarian food? That might've had a more subtle effect on his appearance. | |

It's because of his hairstyle (his worst hair ever, IMHO). Never liked his promotional photos from that era. | |

It is also curious that he wears his beard in such a way, circa late 1989 - 1991, as would somewhat mask these particular aspects of his face. .

He only looks different because of the change in eyebrow shape, facial hair , hairstyle, and maybe facial expressions. I think he was always changing his look to be new I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R. | |

Prince was a chameleon. It seemed like every 2 years he changed his looks, his band, his women, etc.He sure kept things interesting. fan for life | |

It is interesting how important colour/look was to clearly define each era. If you see the New Years Show with Miles you can see a kind of hybrid look between Sign and Lovesexy. Really he just grew his hair out and dropped peach from his wardrobe and went with the lettering and blue green palette  . I've heard it described as Flintstones on steroids - I love the playful fun of it - even if it sometimes looks a bit ill fitting. I don't think he had any work done, maybe a diet change. Going into the dark simple Batman look probably emphasises the difference of that era. | |

This is actually a good gif to post because it shows pretty well he didn't look that dissimilar during the Lovesexy period, it was just the hair framing his face differently and less facial hair (the latter like the Kiss video). | |

Hey-eyy-eyy-eyy-eyy-eyy-eyy-eyy! I always thought the long hair was cool. A few months back there was a thread that had someone’s drawings of all the various hairstyles, which I thought was too precious. In fact I wish I'd saved it, doh!
