Prince's Computer Desktop

Has anyone analyzed Prince's desktop screen from his instagram posts? Lots of interesting looking icons, but I couldn't identify most of them.

Yeah, those were files mostly. What's funny is that he has unneeded shortcuts in Chrome all over the place. Seems he also used IE, and Picasa, and (gag) Windows Media Player. He was on a Dell it looks like.

I noticed that he had an old photo of him signing autographs from the For You days on the desktop.

Now while I damn sure KNOW for fact that Prince LOVED himself...a whole lot. I am just going to have to call timeout on that actually being HIS personal desktop. That's a "fan/fam" desktop.

And for the record, so there is no misunderstanding...had I saw this when it was originally posted... I'd have damn sure said the exact same response and most certainly would have said so, with no fucks to give. batting eyes

I'm just waiting for when someone breaks out the really important stuff....like what kind of toothpaste he used and whether or not laundry day was Tuesday or Saturday. It's impossible to truly appreciate the depth of his lyrical content and music if these critical details remain a mystery.

God is my Sugar Daddy.

Yeah. http://www.rollingstone.c...y-20160502

It is, in theory, a mundane sight, nothing 2 get excited about: just a 55-year-old man in his suburban Minneapolis workplace, scrolling through a Windows Media Player library on a clunky Dell computer. An equally ordinary multi-line phone sits beside it, near a lit candle, bottled water and some expensive-looking lotion. A huge old Xerox machine looms over the desk; a window at the far end of the room looks out onto barren trees and an empty, snow-lined highway. It's early evening on Saturday, January 25th, 2014, in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The office is on the second floor of the 65,000-square-foot Paisley Park compound. The little guy sitting at the keyboard owns it all, had it all built back in the Eighties. And Prince being Prince, it's fascinating to watch him do just about anything. The more ordinary the activity – clicking a mouse, say – the weirder it feels.

(...)

Playing the album in his office, he charmingly takes pains to turn the player's visualizer function on, providing state-of-2002 fractal accompaniment to the music.

To me that looks exactly like an office computer at Paisley Park would – filled with promo pics that they would send out to the press and promoters. It could be one of Prince's OFFICE computers.

For music production I'm sure he still used Mac Pros (as he was known to do so in the past) as I've seen an Apogee Quartet interface on the SSL console, used by Josh, when they were broadcasting the 3EG-gig from his studio.

Perhaps he also used a MacBook for personal correspondence, though it's also possible he switched to Windows due to his grievances over Apple's iTunes business model.

Interesting that the current cover to the Prince 4Ever upcoming release was on his desktop. I guess that could corroborate the statement from the photographer that he approved the artwork for the set.

Windows Media Player is a default shortcut on a Dell, so he may have just left it there. Also, the Chrome shortcuts are not necessarily unneeded. If I want to draw my attention to a web page that I'm going to reference or use soon for whatever reason, I'll drag it to my desktop temporarily instead of letting it get lost in the morass of my actual bookmark list.

I was checking out his instagram too. He posted a symbol with the final piece of the symbol being posted on April 14th. Makes me sad. The videos of him in Studio A playing music from Black is the New Black posted before his passing and to think we were in Studio A taking photos a few weeks ago.

Do you mean the shape of the all the last photos making the symbol? I think i just noticed that now. He was so creative with even Instagram.
I remember seeing a thread where people here were watching his twitter in April after the plane incident and he was reading what Orgers were writing here, then literally answering on his twitter. Just amazing. His fans meant a LOT to him, obviously.

Tough night here. Trying to remember that Prince wanted everyone happy.
Hope all is well there.

Edit to add: Oct 27th Instagram has a great clip of "Time" - live. His voice was amazing. Still.

Donny, got it.
Luna belle, i came across an article from the past year or two which says Prince whipped out his phone at a show of some kind and started putting information about the song that was being played into it. I'm looking for the article now. So maybe he gave in and ultimately got one.

Prince did have a cell phone I've seen him with it several times at Paisley, pretty sure it was an iphone that was all decorated on the back with stickers, or maybe some sort of paint. (or just a case) Many of the shots you would see on twitter or instagram of him playing a snipet or two of music he would take by handing the phone to Treavor.

that's really funny. I wasn't really thinking about the question of the phone when I posted this- but good point! I was thinking of the silver macbook as I remember reading that the first time and being so relieved he didnt just use that old dell!

Yes I read he was a MBP (Mac Book Pro) user too - but it is also possible the Dell was used just in the office as some programs are not compatible with Apple - such as some editing programs etc - I know at work we have to keep using Windows PC as programs such as Microvellum etc wont work properly on Mac - and maybe some in the office were not used to Mac either, so they had a windows option? Just my 2 cents..........

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind πŸ’œ
