Edited as there has been no confirmation of this beyond what the Billboard article announced.

This feels an incredibly low amount... But then I am a fan, and I guess his last albums sold in the tens of thousands.

If labels are bidding im sure i will be bought for more than that. TO BE HONEST as much as Prince may have disliked Warner for a while, but I would bet they or Universal BMG would do right by his releases and honor it the right way. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

We've seen estimates of his estate all the way from $100M to $300M to even $500M. No way his music is only worth $35M. If it is than all these estate estimates are way off. I think it refers only to unreleased music, not the whole catalogue though. Still, I find it very low - and a bit depressing. Although if it means we get unreleased music soon... Bittersweet, I think is the word.

Yes, but it will take significant investment to get the material in a releasable state, plus the marketing etc. Don't forget, to put if bluntly, there is no artist to promote it - appearances / tours / interviews. Artists barely make any money from music 'sales' nowadays, so there's a limit to the $$$ value. Obviously the ❤️❤️❤️ Value to fans is limitless. Realistically how many full albums of 'new' material (not alt mixes) can there be in there? I'd love it to be bought by Apple Music. They have deep, deep pockets and music is a break even business for them. They would invest heavily to promote each release, way more than a traditional record label. Imagine what you could do with a blank chequebook for the marketing of such incredible material. You'd get Spike Lee to make a film about P's life, your put The Revolution on the road for special dates, you'd turn major cities Purple for release day...etc. A company like Apple Music would do that. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

I think we need to wait for more information. You can't sell something without knowing what it is, and the companies won't buy for the same reason, unless they judge they are getting the rights at a greatly undervalued amount.

$35 million is incredibly low..Considering he " made" 25 million this year. Until the end of time

Awesome! It needs to be sold and when it's sold, the buyers will have to release it for sale in order to make back their investment.

Per the article it has to be determined who owns what: Prince may not own each song.

It's a good thing.
The family isn't a corporation with the capital expertise to manage it all. And it seems they need the money. There is a huge irony in a man fighting so hard for something and dies only to see most likely get what he fought for in the first place. We all die. If Prince was alive, it would be a different story, but if it's not important for the family to keep, then I see no problem. It will be in better hands. Let's remember, it was his own sister who sued the brother that most likely helped her financially for credit on a song. Again, he fought her in court and won. But in the end she got it all. Ats much as she could. It's all good. [Edited 10/12/16 16:23pm]

I had sent a tweet to Londell asking if this was true along with a link to the article. He tweeted back "This is absurd!" About a minute later his response along with my tweet and everyone else who had retweeted disappeared. Can't find it anywhere so he must have deleted. Guess we'll see what happens next. Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end
