I have the basic outlines of a play jotted down in my notebook. It's themed around the life of Prince in the impact he's had on people, and individuals. From people who existed close to the inner circles, to somebody living life with their walkman, fans have quite a story to tell. Some of us may have some extraordinary stories. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

If you were going to do a Prince musical, IF you were, then the obvious candidate would be 'Under The Cherry Moon'. Do the 'Mamma Mia' thing, use the artists' music against a new narrative. But to be clear you probably shouldn't at all; even if you got a first cast that could do his material justice it has to be replicable all over the world, imagine 'Kiss' being butchered nightly! No, U don't want Cap'n Crunch

I wonder how much of the planned musical, The Dawn was developed? I'd be in favour of that. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Either this or a Prince-inspired Cirque du Soleil . . . but not until at least 1 year has passed, out of respect.

nonames said: We know that Prince loved musicals and that at different points in his career he planned to write one. I believe that, whether we like it or not, Purple Rain the musical is going to happen. It would be a project for the masses rather than the fans; I would go to watch it, even though I'm not sure how I feel about the idea. So - should it happen? [Edited 10/24/16 11:29am] Do you mean with the same story line. It's the only way you could do it, like Billy Elliot or the full Monty. The only way it could be tweeked would be to introduce some if the additional music Prince wrote for it at the time

I don't know if THIS guy should be part of the actual Broadway production, but maybe the touring company. .

Personally, I think a reworked Graffiti Bridge would make a better musical. Taking inspiration from the original murual. A Paisley West side story. Two sides competing, 7 corners on stage. It could made up of the big hits, plus a sprinkling of unreleased, Like 'the Grand Progression'.

. Now THAT's a really good idea. I bet with the right cast they could really do justice to the much-maligned title track even (always sounded kinda like a showtune anyway). I think it would work better if they did it without a Prince "impersonator" type... Just use the music, expand the story, and don't worry about carbon-copying Prince, Morris, etc.

LMM is familiar with the Broadway process. There would have to be "a book" written for the show. He is hip enough to do that.

I think it's too soon, but eventually it might work as a permanent installation if it only plays at PP. There is that huge soundstage after all so the costs might not be too huge.
