Far above Bowie, to my biggest surprise I must say: I thought Bowie was more popular. It's a hell of an impressive score, Prince must be smiling in heaven A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Maybe do, just not like did before

Let's say I was under the impression Bowie divided audiences less. I've heard lotsa people say Prince or his music irritated them, particularly in the rock crowds (despite half the Org in fact being rock fans), while I don't remember ever hearing anyone saying Bowie or his music irritated them. Everything you said is true. P sure did alienate a lot of people who weren't interested in anything outside their own perceived notion of "normal". At the same time, Prince is a bigger pop culture figure than Bowie (*in the US*) and his death illicited much more shock and hype from a very diverse audience. Not trying to racebait, but it always seemed to me that P had more white fans than Bowie had black fans. May they both Rest In Peace. Sad how a year ago we all thought they'd be here for many years. Maybe do, just not like did before

I agree.
I also thought Bowie was more popular in the UK. I think I read one of his interviews that he said he was frustrated that the States only knew him for the songs Last Dance and Fame as he felt he offered so much more. I am guilty myself for knew him for only Last Dance and Fame.

Bear in mind this is sales plus streaming. If it was sales alone, Prince would very likely be in the top 5, if not top 3! Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!
