Wasn't it Ingrid who introduced him to them? And of coarse he sampled that one song from Heaven/Las Vegas as the main backbeat to "Love Thy Will Be Done". I wonder if Elizabeth or Robin ever commented on that?

Yes I think it was Ingrid. their whole catalogue is amazing. I've never heard any comments from them in print. "love's the only drug we do in here"-Prince

I might be wrong, but I think he told a journalist that Tic Tac Toe was influenced by them.

You're not wrong, this was mentioned in the promo interviews he and the band were doing at the time PE was released.

I think that Prince was aware and a fan of Cocteau Twins near-about mid-eighties. It could be a coincidence but I've seen at least one filmed 80s concert clip where Prince's guitar seems to have similar guitar tunings as Gutherie's. And when you hear the single "God" from Purple Rain, to me the vocals with the trilling and notes are a bit reminiscent of Fraser. How he found out about them I don't know for sure. I've read in places that that band was one of Wendy & Lisa's musical introductions. > Maybe someone else here has some good Housequake or other verification of Cocteau Twins & Prince. > I love to listen to CT's tune from Four Calendar Cafe "Oil of Angels." To me, the song sounds like a sonic handshake between them and Prince.

great memory!
“We recorded (Tic Tac Toe) in Bryan Ferry’s studio in London, after a night of partying for which the Cocteau Twins was the soundtrack. You can’t understand the words of Cocteau Twins songs but their harmonies put you in a dreamlike state.” Prince - Mojo Magazine (April 2014)

"Love... thy will be done" and "One Of Us" samples "Fifty Fifty Clown" by Cocteau Twins
I think TREASURE also influenced the sounds on Parade as I recall. He was listening to them a lot back then and even going to sleep listening to them.
