I don't think the Gold cover is talked about enough, but it's totally sublime. it's so sensual, almost gooey to look at |

Best imho:
Parade, Lovesexy, Sign O The Times.
Classic artwork, and the music is of course perfect.
Worst imho:
3121, Musicology, Emancipation, Planet Earth, Phase 1 & 2,
- so awful, and the music is "so and so"..... not on level.
(I love Phase 1 though (the music I mean) ) Prince 4Ever. |

original photo looks better than processed version used on album cover
Agreed - I do like the cover but the black & White one does look a little gothic/creepy - but I still like it, but prefer the original much more Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜 |

My favorites are:
Least Favorite has always been: Musicology. It always seemed odd to me. And never liked the look on Gold either. Or Cyrstal Ball.

Probably the top ones for me are Around the World, SOTT, and Batman. There are certainly plenty of nominees for worst though as well. Crystal Ball is really bad. As is Rave and Emancipation.
According to Mobeen Azhar's book (published this year) where he collected lots of anecdotes from people who worked with Prince, P designed the Emancipation album cover himself, more or less.
. It was a very funny story from his art director of the time...Apparently, he came into work, and Mayte handed him a CD. He opened it up and Prince had designed the inside and outside covers of 'Emancipation', and included a demo disc, as a gift.
. When the art director asked P's manager / assistant of the period about it, she said P had driven everyone mad the night before, sending them out for glue, and marker pens, scissors - the whole shebang - and had made a bloody awful mess of the office creating his little masterpiece...The art director tried to thank Prince but was just given that look, and nothing more was said about it.
. Sweet! .

My first gut reaction was Parade. A lot of it has to do with the time it came out and the significance of that. I was off to college, away from home for the first time and had a poster of the cover in my dorm room. Sort of my first attempt at self-expression out on my own. And dang, he was so sexy. |
