Are they staggering the release of the CD? Because it is still not available in New Zealand yet. Usually we get them early, but not this time?

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I presume that a mid week release in the US and no streaming means a very low chart placing. I would think a higher position in the UK but not a high one.

I'm in the US and pre-ordered through Amazon and got it the day of release, plus they have it streaming on Amazon music.

On another note, is it me or does Moombeam Levels borrow from Eternity/or Eternity borrows from Moonbeam Levels?

We all have our favorites and we can discuss about the tracklist forever probably.

As it is presented as a Greatest Hits collection there are obviously tracks missing like TMBGITW.

Head, Uptown, Gotta Stop and NC2U should not be on a GH collection IMO.

But Moonbeam Levels isn't a hit also (so far) and wouldn't want to miss that.

Some singles were hits in US only or UK/Europe only, so maybe there should be 2 versions wink

And then there will be a second disk of supposedly unreleased material in the new PR edition coming out next year.

Unpopular opinion time:

Moonbeam Levels is not great, not bad either, but HIGHLY over-rated amongst fans. I'm glad it wasn't on 1999. I like the song that replaced it, Free, MUCH more.

In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink biggrin cool

I agree with you about ML, that it's good but not great. I think a big part of it, is that it was one of the realy early unreleased tracks which became widely available. There are a lot of over rated unreleased tracks, imo.

It is disappointing how poor the marketing of this.the fact that It is an obvious gift item that could be easily bought for shoppers but instead people looking for it can't even find it. Given the goal was to rake in some easy money, what a pathetic job. They shoud have just went for a release that added something new like the PR Deluxe.

I was listening to this on an 11 hour drive yesterday. I'm not that wild about the track sequencing. I always have to buy whatever new Prince comes out, but this is just ok. I am glad to see Moonbeam Levels officially released, but that's the only noteworthy thing about this release. Nice pictures though, worth it for the pics cool

just fyi : Moonbeam levels was just on Radio France (FIP FM) here in Paris, coming out of their hourly news break. The last item in the news break was that a new Prince CD was released. Then the played the song (no long outro).

I am in agreement. I heard it for the first time with this release and while it is okay,it was just okay. Not what I was looking for based on all the talk.

'Gotta Stop' is literally killing my ears. Not only it's a weak song I always skipped, it's just so hot and harsh sounding (lot of distortion) it's horrible.

Sadly this release is again so poorly mastered I'm starting to lose hope for professionally produced archive releases.

Yes, the tracks are remastered, but one of the purposes of mastering an album (especially when it's a compilation of very different recordings/mixes) would be making sure it flows. The percieved level of the tracks should be consistent (not necessarily the same of course, but when something is hotter or softer it should be right dramatically) and the EQ-ing should be consistent too.

This is a cheaply, carelessly produced release. The sequencing is meaningless, wrong. Some of songs are butchered (the ending of 'Take Me With U' for example is horrible). The drastically different recordings are not EQ-d nor remastered consistently. The gaps aren't set musically. The packaging and the booklet is cheap. As pointed out by others already, 'Moonbeam Levels' definitely wasn't sourced from the 1st gen master and that's outrageous.

I have a bad feeling about what's coming in the future.

Actually I'm in the process of writing a long letter of proposals/suggestions to them. Not that I'd be the first person they would listen to (more likely the last smile ), but I thought it's worth a try.

Maybe this release isn't an indication of what's to come though. Maybe (hopefully) I was too pessimistic in my previous post – and this compilation was thrown together quickly just to have something to sell in the holiday season before a proper team of experts would be assembled to preserve the vault and produce releases. We'll see.

Got the cd today. Sounds good, nothing special on the hits section. Moonbeam Levels sounds great (especially since the version I had for years was no 100% quality), so in that sense an addition to my collection.

What was censored in Cream? Even the video back in the day was the good ol' album version.

[EDIT: speaking of which, is the single edit of Controversy censored? I remember the word 'gay' was cut so short it sounded like 'geh' in the video.]
