I did notice that side A (such as it is) flows great from song to song. Side B, on the other hand, seems to have about 4 or 5 seconds of extra silince between tracks. The last track does end with the audio though, no extra seconds of silence.

.

Given that this is the best sounding version of Rebirth (better than the recent Crystal Ball version), I am inclined to believe that the source is different. I do still have to listen for the differences between the versions though, as I do not hear them from just listening to the tracks. I have to put them side by side in a multitrack editor to see what the differences are, I suppose. Or mono both tracks and do left/right and listen with headphones.

Well, I've seen someone else elsewhere saying it's fanmade--I'm downloading anyway (just to hear, if nothing else). The idea of a Camille master is so exciting, though. Too bad it isn't true, in this particular case. But it still might come, and wouldn't that be great.

Thanks for the clarification @TheDigitalGardener. After listening, this could be the real thing, but like you I'm hesitant in being 100% sure. If this is fan made, big up to the person responsible! Quality is incredible.

I think we would have better clarification if there is anyone on this discussion board can provide any info on if there were different variations of some of the following tracks for this album:

Housequake

Strange Relationships

If I Was Your Girlfriend

^ What I do not know is whether -admitting this isn't the real deal- the original config is in possession of any collector at all, or if we just know the tracklist. Many of the known but uncirculating tracklists listed on Princevault have been in possession of few, and have most likely been heard by Per Nilsen and co., which explains the details we have about tapes that we do not have (as this has been proven by some leaking ever since, such as the recent D&P config). Many, but probably not all. If someone has it then that someone can confirm whether what we have is the real deal or not.

Well, the thing Krattinger had up for auction sold, so if it was (as it was claimed) an actual pressing of the album, then that's in someone's possession. We might not be lucky enough to have that someone be a collector motivated by a desire to get digital copies into all of our grubby little fingers, but it would certainly be nice if he or she did have that motivation. I don't necessarily expect the "real Camille" to show up, but other people clearly have more information than I do about what's making the elite collectors' rounds.

There are plenty of things fans can do to improve the sound quality of an existing boot, but it will never be as clear or vibrant as this P&B version I'm hearing. No way this is a fan made remaster. This is from a new source.

This is definitly fake. Rebirth of the Flesh has been sourced from the Crystal Ball leak and cleaned up a little bit. The quality all differers too much from each other.

I'm reasonably confident this is fan made, really well done, but fan made nonetheless.

Correct me if i'm wrong but we know that The Crystal Ball leak from last year (or was it the year before?) came from an inhouse cassette of some sort. As such if you listen to it you'll notice that as well as some songs having a bit of distortion on them all songs have an audible tape hiss; I locate it strongest in the upper left of the stereo-sound, so to speak. This is still present on Rebirth of the Flesh on this "leak" but on none of the other tracks. The tape hiss is easiest heard by comparing the CB leak version of Strange Relationship with the actual version on the Sign o the Times CD, once you lock into the hiss you'll hear it easier on ROTF.

Happy to be proven wrong here by the way, i'd love if this was sourced from the mastertapes but i'd be more convinced if a vinyl rip of the acetate suddenly appeared on the scene.

For what it's worth this is still really well done and will probably be my go to version of Camille for future listens.

Once you start looking for differences you start noticing stuff you never heard before! It happened to me a few times but when i went and compared they were on the original. If anyone can say "at x time you hear Y sound that was not on the crystal ball leak" then i'm happy to concede i'm wrong, I just can't find anything myself.

But listen, I can't say 100%. This might be a slightly better source or it might just be someone cleaning it up a bit digitally. The tape hiss makes it suspect to me though.

so I started listening with headphones and indeed heard the tape his in Rebirth, but not housequake. So I downmixed the Crystal Ball version to mono, then made it stereo again (double mono) and removed the right channel. I did the same for the "new" version and removed the left channel. Then I mixed them together, giving me Crystal Ball on the left, Camille on the right.

.

Apart from me not editing the start correctly, resulting in a very slight time difference between the two channels (enough to "enhance" the stereo effect, not enough to make it unlistenable), I cannot hear any difference between the two versions. All drums-, horn- and guitar licks are the same. All the background vocals are the same. (to my ears)

.

I'm starting to lean towards fan release. But I have to say, this fan is very good at audio tweaking, as this is now my go-to version of Rebirth of the Flesh.

Oh my this sounds very intense. I had always just taken the tracks from the various legit sources and just burned a playlist of the Camille tracks to disc. Is this version you all have found so much better that it would be worthwhile to track it down? I rather like the version I was able to make but I'm a bit curious based on the discussion here. Is it much cleaner?

If anyone bought Prince's catalog it would be nice if it was Warners and if they would bring back the Paisley Park imprint to go with them. Kinda like how Beatles albums are still released by Apple records. Or how new Star Wars films still carry the Lucasfilm name even after Lucas sold it to Disney.
The Paisley Park label was a partnership between Prince and WB.

Rebirth of the Flesh was never in a legit source. And it also was never in a clean version. Then a while ago a real Crystal Ball surfaced and we finally got a version that was acceptibly clean. This version sounds more alive, less deadened by noise reduction. It might be from the same source though.

.

In short, yes, hunt it down, Rebirth of the Flesh is such a great track that it deserves it, afaic. Also, having the album sequenced correctly is nice, as it is a great album, imo. I love the Dream Factory/Camille/Crystal Ball/Sign Of The Times/Black Album period, all albums have their own right to be!

I think the PP albums WB still prints still carry the logo. Further rereleases may do so whether WB does them or not since, IIRC, Prince owned the brand. However PP as a has little value as of now: outside of the Prince fans community it has achieved no legendary status, and it's been gladly forgotten by the world. Heck, even Prince fans shit on most of what the label released besides Prince's own side-projects. I for one was madly in love with this label, and still enjoy most of the records that were released on it, but I'm more an exception than a rule. So I'm with you on the PP nostalgia, but I fear we're a small minority. Another issue is that the rights to various PP albums may be disseminated between various companies (I see at least 3: the Prince estate, WB/Reprise and whomever now owns the TDK assets).

You're right - I have the tracks but Rebirth did come from The Work volume 2 I think. So technically while I have all the tracks I will most certainly hunt this thing down after work. I'm always astounded at the number of cool things I hear about here - and this might be the coolest so far.

Cheers!

Isn't this being confused with the awesome "Cleaned and Augmented" version created a month ago by you know who?

I do think it's a little unfair of the thread title to proclaim this as the release of the master when in fact this clearly isn't the case and as such confusion is rife.

Also, I don't know who.. but if you are talking about the Peach&Black version with all the extra and completely unrelated tracks, no, that is not what I am talking about. That version isn't as good as what we are talking about here. (not to mention it has all this extra distracting stuff)

I think you're right. I thought I heard some extra/different horn lines around 2.20 until I went back and listened to the orginal. It's the same but a bit a cleaner so still good to have fan made or not.

Nope, the fan made "Cleaned and Augmented" version doesn't have extra tracks. I don't know if we are allowed to say who but this guy is a genuious when it comes to cleaning up tracks.

.

His version was issued last month which coincides with this new 'confusion'.

.

I don't know much about the pressing that went to auction so I'll have to Google that to find out more. I wonder how many were pressed as I doubt there will just be just one. Even the production process requires plates and acetates to be produced before pressing an actual vinyl record.

.
