Then I mixed them together, giving me Crystal Ball on the left, Camille on the right. . Apart from me not editing the start correctly, resulting in a very slight time difference between the two channels (enough to "enhance" the stereo effect, not enough to make it unlistenable), I cannot hear any difference between the two versions. All drums-, horn- and guitar licks are the same. All the background vocals are the same. (to my ears) . I'm starting to lean towards fan release. But I have to say, this fan is very good at audio tweaking, as this is now my go-to version of Rebirth of the Flesh.

People really consider this cleaned up version of ROTF the best one? I think the CB cassette leak is much better. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain. |

The CB cassete leak is better IMO and most likely where this fan remaster is sourced
Comparing both of them this new ROTF has more distortion in the vocals and besides that I don't hear more than just minor EQ tweaks. The cassete leak from a little while back is still my go-to. To me I hear more crackling and noise in the vocals especially in this new version, especially in the beggining [Edited 10/18/16 12:02pm] | |

Hi, just have this newly surfaced Camille a listen and I'm still on the fence, but leaning toward a single source, i.e., not a fan-made compilation. ROTF sounds brilliant, as many have noted. And the segue between that and Housequake is flawless. The rest sounds fantastic too, which shouldn't surprise, as all have been available in one form or another on various releases. What is interesting to me, and makes made me question the single source theory, is the longer gaps between tracks, especially after Shockadelica into Good Love, and before IIWYG. Even after Housequake, there are a few seconds before Strange Relationship. On the Crystal Ball tape from last year, the songs were sequenced right on top of each other, with hardly any gaps between. I don't know what that means, or how it matters, really, just something I noticed. Camille was a very short lived project - roughly 3 weeks in 1986. It was compiled on Nov 5 and by Nov 30, Prince had a configuration of Crystal Ball worked up already, with all but one song (Feel U Up) carrying over. It's nicely done but I really don't think ROTF is any better that what is already out there. |
