I like both the old and the new - and the fact he changed & grew up. For example, I was a massive Madonna fan and in the 90s her sex and erotica was cool but now as she is much older it is not so cool - it gets to a point that it is not classy or funny - it becomes vulgar. Not that I am saying Prince was ever vulgar - but to think of him laying on the stage at nearly 60 making out with the microphone is a hideous thought - and I wish other celebs would grow up a little too, I think Prince did everything at the right time - he was perfection in his art and knew how to create other ways to be sensual. It's funny - I hear him cursing now on old rehearsal boots and I don't like it. The music I already know where he curses I have no problem with.

He was still nasty just more subtle about it. "Mr. Goodnight" and "When She Comes" are just two quick examples of that. I don't think I would like a 50+ man talking about how he wanted to "Fuck the taste out of my mouth" no matter how fine he was. He was older, more sophisticated and smooth.

I never viewed Prince as being vulgar. It was all done in fine taste / artistically and he always had a lot of style no matter what he was doing. As for the swearing... well if it means that he replaced generic swear words with a richer and more accurate vocabulary, it's all for the better in my opinion. Life Matters

. YES . I think that most dirty talk is a turn off. . But Prince knew how to talk dirty in a way that was a turn on. . And I think he de-stigmatized graphic sex talk a little bit by songs like "I Love You In Me". . I love every word in that song except "Surgery". .

It's funny I saw him live at Jones Beach I think in 98 and between that show and New Power Soul I think that's when I was kinda over him cursing. And so it felt like a natural transition to find new ways to say things because those words weren't having the desired effect anymore. Time to evolve 1980-Present

Yes, I missed it. I found that the use of profanity and sexuality in his work was always very clever and funny, never gratuitous. To me it was an important part of the Prince persona.
