No air conditioning is The Vault?

The manager of the museum said they had to upgrade the HVAC system so the master tapes would have air conditioning. that means all this time the tapes were stored basement level with no climate control. thats not good for 30+ year old Ampex tapes. hope the tapes didn't turn to mush

I don't know if this is true, because I only read it in one account online, but it was said there had been water damage in the vault at one time.

I don't think he meant it didn't have any, he was saying it needed replacing.

I supposed the bigger question is, does that mean the tapes are still in there?

// I remember one of the engineers saying the vault was climate controlled.

That is conjecture, not the truth. The Vault has always been climate controlled. You just said they "upgraded" the HVAC, which means one had to exist before that. You can't upgrade what's not there. They didn't upgrade the vault, they upgraded the HVAC in the vault. Do you really think Prince is letting tapes sit in some dank or damp or dry or whatever room since 1987? Really???????

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

At least we know now, it has been opened, and pressumably no will was found.

We knew it was drilled open shortly after he died on order from Bremer Trust. Only he had the combination.

I actually think that information came from TMZ. I do not think the first thing Bremer did was drill open a vault.

Wasn't just TMZ.

I never said it was the first thing, I said it was done shortly after he died. Those reports are dated before the end of April, which only had 9 days left after he died. 9 days is shortly after.

I thought at the time those stories were dismissed.

I mean, I never heard the contrary that it was drilled open. So - I don't know. I always heard it was. It's been opened at some point, because Tyka talked about releasing the music, etc. I sorta wonder why no one ever tried a combination of a birthday or an address or anything to get in there.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I wouldn' be surprised. I remember at one of his Paisley jams a few years ago, he took a video tape out of the vault (it was from the symbol era) and showed it at the beginning of the party. You could tell the tape had not been preserved well. The colors were bleeding into one another and the film had a bunch of streaks running across it. I remember a lot of people talking about it pretty much hoping the rest of the tapes in the vault didn't look like that. sad
