Memorial items taken off the fence

I saw this on one of the Prince sites on Facebook. I will find the link if needed. I saw it early this morning and it was from a Minneapolis news. It said that the estate had taken all of the memorial items off the fence on Monday due to safety reasons with it causing a lot of traffic problems and also a danger to pedestrians. I figured someone would have already posted but since I didn't see anything I went ahead this evening.

That's sad. So, I wonder if they are going to allow people to leave flowers and cards from here on out? What about when PP tours open? What will they do then? sad

Sorry, I forgot to add they said they would not allow anything to be left on or near the fence from here on out.

I was gonna post the link but it won't let me copy and paste it on here. Is there another way I don't know?

Well, that's really sad to hear. I'm sure a lot of people would love to leave flowers, momento's or something to show their respects, but on the other hand, I can understand them not wanting that stuff laying around either. Thanks for sharing.

All you have to do it copy and paste it. Pretty easy. Anyone can do it, there are no ifs, or buts, or exceptions.

Regarding the items, winter is coming. Specifically, winter in Minnesota. It's reasonable that they're being taken down. They can't be there forever. Anything written on has probably already gotten partially destroyed in rain, from the sun, is covered in dust, or a combination of all three.

Earlier in the year, Tyka or someone said they were being cataloged according to fence section, and stored. I don't know if that is still holding true. But at some point, things have to be more user and visitor friendly, and frankly traffic friendly, and aesthetically not an eyesore. While a memorial is not an eyesore, this is a business, and there are things they will want to do and keep certain ways.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I tried to copy and paste. It is pretty easy IF it works. BUT it didn't. So I'm the EXCEPTION I guess. ?? I don't know.

Anyways they can do what they like with the items. I was just sharing the info.

Agree with this and even though it's common sense...there's a lot of people who are angry about it. It seems like whatever happens over anything to do with Prince and/or his estate causes someone somewhere to be upset.

blondie1147, do you mean you can't get it to work like a link....it's not clickable?

ETA: here's one I'd posted elsewhere on the site earlier today, was this the one you saw: http://minnesota.cbslocal...-concerns/

Total BS. The Paisley Police could have at least waited until AFTER the "official" tribute weekend was over.

Obviously many fans are coming to town for the tribute events. No one with PP management considered that fans could be looking forward to taking in and seeing in person the wonderful tributes to Prince, just as people have left them, along the fence?

Inconsiderate and dumb business move to deny loyal fans (aka customers) that opportunity.

Then, Paisley Park management took things one step further and have expressly forbid fans (aka loyal customers) from leaving any mementos on the fence (as they visit Paisley for the tribute weekend) to pay their respects to Prince.

FAIL.

No question this is coming from the city. I doubt there's much Bremer or Graceland could do. Do we really want the city to pull the plug on this and then who knows what happens to PP? Sold off to some developer so estate taxes can be paid?

I also have to agree with this. I've walked along that fence many times these past few months and to be honest from a distance it just looked messy. Plus we've had a lot of rain in August and September so many times I'd walk past the fence and see puddles of water everywhere. Also every day seems to be incredibly windy so I can only imagine stuff was blowing away on to other people's property and they complained about it. It shouldn't surprise anyone this stuff would be taken down before the official tours started on the 6th. For all we know some of this stuff will be displayed inside PP.

They really ought to set up condolence books so people can write in them and flick through them if they wish - I do understand about the fence though - I woudl rather that be kept clean too, anything but putting a wall up !!

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

The other thing is that winter's coming. If you have people piling stuff up along the fence, it creates shelter for critters - mice, rabbits, etc. Leave it there for the whole winter and good gawd - what a mess in the spring.

Maybe the should have a dedicated memorial alter area - something small - like a covered gazebo type of thing where people can leave their mementos - I understand all the city issues with it - but the wall wont stop people from leaving things or showing up to pay their respects...

Something small and contained is the way to go. But maybe, instead of people bringing things (which results in a lot of "stuff" that someone else will ultimately have to dispose or take care of), they could have candles to light or a book to sign.

Trivial, we see some here, but have you seen the shit being posted on various Facebook pages/groups??? Sign this petition, sign that petition. Man on some of those FB pages you'd think the only people grieving over his loss or the only ones who care are his "fams". "Fams" aren't the only ones hurting. It's easy when one doesn't have any responsibility and can just sit behind a computer screen complaining on FB or starting online petitions.

Why are you quoting us? Direct this at people who are whining about this stuff being removed.

Or better yet - don't mention such grossness, at all. Nobody needed to read that. barf
