Been following the Man since 83' , caught trains to Sydney once a month ( 90 min ride ) in the early 90's to buy bootlegs & spend all my hard earned cash. It was quite difficult to keep up with Prince in Australia, but I bought everything I could find!

Late 70's.

39 years. I don't remember how I made the connection from the voice on the radio and the picture I saw, but I remember distinctly talking my best-friend Diana's ear off about him when I was 13 in Jr. High School. Somehow I'd learned quite a bit of info about him while at the same time hiding my interest in him from my Dad. CW Deans was highly instrumental in that.

Other 3 years old used to watch cartoons. Not me, Purple Rain and Live In Syracuse on repeat from '85 onwrards

1979. .... my senior year in high school. That song. . .why you wanna treat me so bad. That's where it all started.

I knew of him since the Bandstand performance and through the controversy, 1999 and purple rain albums, I became a fanatic.

For 32 wonderful years... The first song I heard (on the radio) and liked, was "1999", but I didn't become a fan until 1984, when I was an impressionable teenager . (And impressed I was ! )

I had seen the "1999" video on TV before then, but didn't like Prince at the time. Jill wearing lingerie dancing way too close to Lisa, plus being shot on videotape instead of film like most other videos, it looked to me like someone's homemade porn video. I felt very filthy watching it. And seeing the picture sleeve of the "Let's Pretend We're Married" 12" in stores later that year didn't help either.

It was when the trailers for Purple Rain began airing on TV with "Let's Go Crazy" playing in the background that I knew I had to see this movie and get this album.

Hi LoneCrone! Apparently she was the one who was "lying" since his first album came out in '78 and his second in '79. Did you let her know the facts?

I'm 26 so 13 years and counting

A casual fan since 79 when I first heard Wanna Be Your Lover, more of a fan in 80 with Dirty Mind, and then flat out obsessed fanatic since Controversy in 81. First Prince concert was that year too.
