Will Prince get the sympathy Grammy nomination/win this year?

Sadly this has happened before with Artists who die after they release an album... John Lennon won for Double Fantasy and half of the album was Yoko and her weird sounds...but still won.

Do you think Prince will get the same treatment??

Phase 2 deserves it period. Black Muse, Stare, Revelation, etc. are some of his best songs and way better than anything else that came out in the past year.

Will he be competing against David Bowie for "Blackstar?'

I just hope he gets a decent tribute and not the rushed garbage we saw at the Billboard awards.

I love Black Muse. But when they hand out awards to people like Sam Smith I don't have much confidence.

What's bad about Sam Smith?

They hand out Grammy awards like "Perfect Attendance" certificates nowadays. Does it really matter now?

Phase 2 doesn't need a sympathy vote. There are so many good songs on that album it can stand on it's own. Anyway these awards only really mean something to the record industry who naturally use the platform to promote and sell more records and those that see it as a honour to be recognised by their peers. Although Prince often said he didn't care for awards, I have a sneaky feeling that he really did. wink As a Prince fan, if he gets one I will see it as a fitting tribute, but I think the majority of Joe public couldn't really care less.

I dislike "sympathy awards" that are handed out after an artist dies. It's insulting. If the Grammy voters can't appreciate an artist and their music when they're alive, then don't wait until they die to finally acknowledge them.

*ALL* the awards for Prince! And not because of sympathy, but because he deserves it wink

This reminds me of something I used to think about a lot. You know how there's categories for Rock, R&B, Pop, Soul, etc.? Does anyone else think there needs to be a new genre created & called "Prince" since he transcended genres?

Sympathy vote or not, it deserves a nomination like many of Prince's overlooked albums.

No - for the simple reason that album was released in 2015 and is not eligible.

The eligibility period for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards is October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016. HNR Phase 2 is eligible.....

"HNR Phase 2" should definitely be given an Album of the Year nomination. No, it wasn't a huge seller...but sometimes being nominated (or winning) brings more awareness for folks to pick it up. Not every album nominated is always a big seller anyway. Alot of great music on that LP.

It would be nice to see him getting acknowledged for something. Since we're on this topic, did anyone happen to see the Emmy's....towards the end? They showed all the actors/musicians that we lost this year and the last one they showed........was........PRINCE!! OMG, that hit me really hard. It still does not seem possible that he's gone. sad
