There are only so many days in a year. A few years ago, I did a spreadsheet of Prince's releases in calendar form. There are a lot of things released on the same day in different years. It most likely was a coincidence.

In my mind it was in the summer - the movie, the album, and then the tour in the fall! I love those memories!
