Lovesexy....it should have been a single at the time, and the fact that it wasn't (although Alphabet St was great) may have contributed to the album not being successful. I think the album is up with there SOTT, it was his last great album in my opinion. I think the other singles, Glam Slam and I Wish U Heaven, again, I like them as I like all tracks on the album, but there needed to be a huge track and I think Lovesexy was that.
Maybe an opportunity missed, but the album's a masterpiece.
It was planned as a single - and extended mix was even made for it. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain. |

This album is a masterpiece.
Anna Stesia is my favorite, followed closely by Positivity and I wish U heaven.

Hard to pick, but I'm gonna say Alphabet St. as 1A and When 2 R In Love as 1B. W2RIL contains one of his very best vocal performances ever if you ask me, especially when you listen to it now after his death. Chills. Positivity gets an honorable close second. Such a great album, it has aged beautifully. [Edited 9/27/16 8:01am] Get in your mouse, and get out of here! |

LovesexyIsThe1 said: It's one helluva funk jam! It's fantastic! No argument there. But still... I can't imagine listening to the Lovesexy song outside of the context of the Lovesexy album. That's what I was trying to say. These songs belong together.
i'm a bit of a lovesexy hater to be honest, and i love the title track. it's the only song on the album i really like and listen to it as a stand-alone song reasonably often. it's spacey, weird, goes all over the place, and rocks pretty hard. i don't say this to be negative or a downer, but only to say that i might be the one guy who likes it outside of the record.
Lovesexy is my pick for favorite song as well.
Because I have the one-track CD, I always listen to the entire album whenever I play it. So I've never heard the non-singles outside the context of the album. And I like it that way.

THE WHOLE THING (all versions that don't have the album as one track are pointless to me - no way I'm turning it on to stop it half way)
Although Positivity is the one I go back to just a little bit more than the others when I show people little parts of what they're missing. That and Glam Slam. |

I totally agree! The title track should have been the second single from the album, instead of the decent but unremarkable "Glam Slam". |

As the original release of this CD was a single track I'd have to say my favourite track is track one!!!
.
One of his best albums. Musically and lyrically spot on and conceptually cohearant.

Is Anna Stesia widely considered the best song on the album? I agree it's top 3, but my favorite has always been the title song Lovesexy, love the groove, and it gets dirty towards the end |

This is really a though one for me. Lovesexy is one of my favorite albums which I bought right at the day it came out. At first I had to get used to the album after what I was used to hearing on SOTT. But it grew on me fast and I absolutely love it. Asking me what my favorite song is on a concept album like Lovesexy is the same as asking me which is my favorite of my three children. The tracks belong to each other and even messing with the order of the tracks would be a mistake and impossible to do. Maybe it's easier for me to mention my least favorite song on this album, which would be When 2 R In Love. And that's not quite fair since this song was intended for the Black Album to begin with. But if I was held a gun to my head and I had to choose than this would be the only choice I could make. Lovesexy is not just an album it's a masterpiece and a work of art. 'Liberate My Mind' |

I don't think I have one. The individual songs on this album aren't that strong, but together they become more than the sum of their parts. This is exactly the kind of album you need to listen to from start to finish. This is not music, this is a trip. Prince wasn't wrong when he released it as a one-track CD.
While I probably do have a favourite song on Lovesexy (Positivity), I certainly agree with you. In my teens when all of my music collection was on vinyl, this was one of the only albums where I just HAD to turn over and listen to side two as soon as side one ended. I always treated Lovesexy as one piece of music.
It became one of the very few albums where the listening experience was enhanced for me when I moved from vinyl to C.D. (in itself not one of my wisest life decisions). 28 years on and it's still an album I listen to as a whole in one sitting.
But for the OP, my answer is Positivity.

For the 6 years that I've been a Prince fan (I went away but came back), I could never get into Lovesexy but as of recently I've started digging the airy, spiritual vibe of the album and my favorite song so far has been Glam Slam followed by Eye No.
Btw, does anyone else think the melody to Eye No sounds a lot like Soft and Wet? I swear they sound so much alike "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more" |

This is one I prefer listening as an album (as Prince intended). All of the songs are good...but they are better together. |

I can't listen all the way through anymore for his heavy-handed religiosity. Young I listened constantly. (call that pre-consciousness if you will)
Heaven and Alphabet Street are gems that avoid that pitfall. |
