Funny note at the beginning: Football fans were hoping for the Vikings to make the first touchdown in the new stadium. That didn't happen. But, the first touchdown pass was from Rodgers to Nelson.

Yes, this is an excellent and very cool insight into the professonal reality of the situation and challenges of keeping his legacy vibrant and possible new releases (rather than fans shouting or the media dramatizing).

I do feel that there is advantage to pop guru outsiders also having input, because as an insider, people know the reality of it, they knew Prince as a real person. But that is not what his legacy is.

His legacy is the brand of Prince, and the art as it was accepted and embraced by the world and fans. There's a difference in perspective, and Prince himself was well aware of it, and he did the work well of stitching patterns of reality within a quilt of myth.

I love the story about this 4th engineer they had to call in because another guy didn't show up, a female engineer. She was "very serious" and fearless in how she worked. When Prince would ask "What do you think?" the guys would never really say what they thought. The female would just pop up and say "You should do that over again." BOLD. hahaha But he responded to female energy much more, and they made the note that his earlier engineers were women, not men.

I've known Dave Hampton for years, but it's been a while. He is an AWESOME guy, and a great engineer.

Interesting note about The Egg: It was intended to be a restaurant, then other things. It was ultimately used as storage. It mainly had boxes of clothes and other stuff.

Apparently, there was also underground access to it, opposed to solely having to go outside to get in the place. (Imagine the nightmare of that in a snow storm and Prince wants his favorite booties.)

This was GREAT - I love hearing the nerds behind the scenes nerd out. Funk.. to his credit stayed out of the way and this guy was wealth of info.

Like I said yesterday, I advise anyone who cares about Prince and his legacy, to listen to this. It really is worth your time. The information that he shares is interesting and insightful especially the dynamics of the individuals behind the scene at PP.

I think Dave comes across in this interview as a very level headed guy. He makes a lot of relevant points and sounds like he has the right characteristics to be involved with Prince's legacy. I sincerely hope that things work out and he becomes involved and is given a prominent role.

Yes he wasn't going to get drawn into his views on her. He had an objective view of her based on his own research of her as a peer.

He came across as a consummate professional who would be an incredible asset to P's estate. I hope they recognize that.

Yep. Dave already has experience doing archival work for the Miles Davis estate too.

Graceland is cool! I felt it was infused with this real feeling of nostalgia and sadness about Elvis. It makes you feel that despite being the most famous and popular rock star EVER, all he wanted was to live in a (modest by today's standards) house with friends and family and his parents too.

I've become concerned about how things might be handled now too. The first indicator was how quickly they have pushed to get the museum up and running (in order to coincide with the 'official' tribute concert).

The second cause for concern is them announcing plans to build an EIGHT FOOT WALL (which goes against Prince's apparent intentions and would TOTALLY change the aesthetic charm and view at the property).

At Graceland, the home is basically as Elvis left it and then they made what is a separate racketball court building into a place to display outfits and exhibits. At Paisley Park the adjacent circular building or the soundstage offers plenty of space to display all sorts of stuff.

The museum also announced plans to add a boutique hotel so that strangers or fans alike could stay the night at a notoriously private man's property? Maybe an amusement ride could be added too. How about a slide on top of the soundstage? Maybe open up the studios for karaoke nights?

His place as a Prince outsider is done now unless the family wants to keep him up to date on things. Not paying much attention to him, but I never did before either.
