I Heard BAD (the song) when I was eating today. Coincidence someone razz

Anyway, it's crazy how this took of as an song. Anyone else than MJ doing this would be considered a laughingstock. It's horribly dated and awful in it's own right. I really don't see how Prince would've improved it back then confused

Glad someone said that. People are too deferential. Bad is a really childish song and you're right - if anyone else had done it it would be considered on a par with Yazz's "Stand Up For Your Love Rights".

Prince must have covered it as a joke. He had a love-hate thing with MJ and was always teasing him from a distance.

The quote is from Susannah Melvoin

"He (Prince) couldn't believe M had the nerve to call the song I'm Bad. "He was like, there's nothing badass about him" He (Prince) could not let M get away with it. Not only was he not going to sing it with him, He went into the studio and re-recorded it to what he though it should be and sent it back to M. Like, "No, and by the way this is what it should be". That was the end of that".

Personally I like to imagine it's just 20 minutes of Prince on his bass laughing and shouting "who's bad" into the microphone.

Would love to hear that. Surprised nobody leaked it after MJ's death, since Prince send it to him.

And that was Prince at his peak. Badass and cocky because he and everyone knew it.
That story is funny as hell.

You know we have to encourage Susannah to write her own book from her perspective. The stories from her perspective in his life and that exact place and point have got to be amazing.

That's nothing like the beat from Bob George!
Of course thats based on Bob George. It's just not dampened like on BG. The Dub Mix even goes further with the Bob George sample of "skinny mother fucker with a high voice" its intentional. And you can hear Prince heyboards besides guitar on this mix Shit M's "Music" even takes it further in biting the BG beat by even damping the beat just like on BG.

Um - no! You've gone from you're initial statement that Prince "did a re-mix with the Bob George beat mixed in" to now saying it is a beat "based-on" Bob Geroge (which it still isn't!).

The BG beat has a single kick and triple kick (quaver then semi-quaver) in the first bar, and bar 2 has a triple kick (semi-quaver then quaver) followed by a single kick.

It's not the Bob George beat, which is what you said, and a standard 8-beat cannot be claimed to be "based on" the BG beat either.

And now you're reaching even further by claiming that Madonna's "Music" is "biting the BG beat" - that's ludicrous. Again, they are not vaguely similar either in rhythm, arrangement, or production. Frankly, you're making tenuous links and assumptions in place of any evidence.

That might be Prince's guitar on the dub mix and the use of the skinny-mf sample certainly alludes to his involvement. I'm not contesting that. But you can't say a beat is used or sampled, when it isn't, then change it to "based-on", when it still isn't, as it severly lessens your arguments.

That's not the mix I was taking about. And your histrionics about evelse is wrong too.

I've listened to the 12" club/dance mix and dub mix - which one are you referring to? Neither of the 2 mixes I've listened to are remotely like the beat from Bob George. Maybe you need to reacquainte yourself with the original track?

Your response is nowhere near adequate. Prove I'm wrong - or rather, as I've demonstrated why you're mistaken, perhaps you should attempt to prove how you're right.

In other words, you have NOTHING to say or back-up your claims. I'm a music producer and travel the world playing my music. A multi-instrumentalist with over 30 years playing drums - so nothing wrong with my hearing or my ability to analyse music. Sorry to have to keep negating your ramblings with facts.

Aged 8/9, it was my absolute favourite song. Became a Michael Jackson fan from there.
