So Prince supposedly remade "Like a Prayer" "Angie" and "Bad"

I think these are probably the three biggest outtakes I want to hear right now.

Anyone have quotes or links to info about any of these?

And why would Prince call someone else (other than himself) Camille as reported by Quincy Jones himself... who was there?

^ Acording to Quincy Jones, Prince talked to a well known pop star we're not allowed to talk about here. While talking to this person Prince repeatedly called them "Camillie" in what seemed to be a derogatory way.

But as we know Prince had his own character by the name Camille. And an album. So it's an odd little story.

He was taking a dig at Mike. What was Camille suppose to be?

Camille is Prince's admitted and publicized alter ego with pitched up vocals, credited as lead singer on tracks released on SOTT as well as the b-side "Scarlet Pussy". is that what you meant to ask?

Oooh, you better edit that out or this thread will be moved to a certain sticky. Mustn't reference the other guy, even if we're specifically talking about Prince.

I'd be really interested in hearing P versions of these songs, especially Bad. What's the source for him having a version of Like a Prayer?

Prince calling MJ 'Camille' was probably a bit of fun, but might have had some meaning.

If you remember, Camille morphed from a female character in 86 to a male character or mindset by 88. The male Camille fell into the trap of trying to be more 'street'.

Maybe Prince had seen the massive success of the Bad LP in Summer 87, where Michael went significantly 'white pop" and referenced MJ as a Camille character that had "succumbed" to Spooky Electric.

Careful. Mention MJ too much even when related directly to Prince, and this thread will be locked and you'll be directed to take this discussion to the single MJ thread. rolleyes

Google says the name "Camille" means "helper to the priest"

There was a film from the 1930s called Camille "A Parisian courtesan must choose between the young man who loves her and the callous baron who wants her, even as her own health begins to fail." though according to IMDB there is no character by the name of Camille in the film (although I haven't watched it).

I think it's kind of taken for granted that since he worked with Madonna on "Lovesong" he must have a cover version of LAP in the vaults somewhere. I'm not sure it was ever confirmed, though I could be wrong.

I think there was a lot of speculation and rumours that Prince was playing guitar on the song LAP? Or that he may have been more involved with the album than just co-writer of "Lovesong". Though I suspect if that were the case he'd have made it known by playing those songs live.

We know Prince was a fan of The Rolling Stones . He once said he wished he had written "Miss You" and he's covered their songs live... and on "The Undertaker"

I am dying to hear his take on "Angie"

Me too. For some reason, I always wanted to hear Prince cover the Stones 'Beast of Burden'. I've always thought that would be something fantastic.

.

But at the same time, that's almost in the category of most Prince songs. Leave it the hell alone because they're the only ones that should do it... I'm torn.

I would love to hear those remakes too - Prince singing Like a Prayer and Bad - would be incredible.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

The irony of P doing Bad is that he, unlike the other artist, never needed a song like that to establish any cred.

I think it would be heaven to hear his falsetto on Angie.

I Heard BAD (the song) when I was eating today. Coincidence someone razz

Anyway, it's crazy how this took of as an song. Anyone else than MJ doing this would be considered a laughingstock. It's horribly dated and awful in it's own right. I really don't see how Prince would've improved it back then confused

It's fucking sad the mods here are such giant boobs. Is that flaming? The fact this thread has the word 'Bad' in it alone will send them to blind lock status. Even if this is a Prince thread in context! lol

I don't know. Most of his studio covers sucked. I was kind of disappointed when he started doing them to be honest. I loved the fact he didn't. Then 'Emancpation' came out. neutral

The other artist had 'cred' way before Prince even signed to WB. Fact.

Being 'Bad' was 80s Shit Hop bollocks, so shame on him for getting drawn i suppose .His J5/Jacksons work had already secured his status before 'Off The Wall' sealed it. Then Prince was good enough to acknowledge that work by covering him post death. Good enough for him..

I know some of his covers are off kilter, but they are also so Prince. He chose to style them in ways to brand them, and I am curious how he would brand these three songs in his style.

Some of why I'm into Prince is not even because I like the music he came up with, but more about his technique and style, his concept to his defining his sound.

What's sad is I had to just go change some of that to past tense. neutral

I'm feeling that. 'Sucked' was certainly too strong a word. I've had a day off today and been listening all evening/night to Prince. It's turned the 21st in the UK. My Mrs asked why i was down. I just said it was that time of the month.

confused
