And these soundboards are off da hook too.

I didn't even mention the Peach soundboard Encore from the Glam Slam show i was at back in 94'.

What a week we're having huh?

4 Lust--is this the same song that leaked awhile back with Prince duetting with Jill, only without Prince? Or is it a different song? I think it's the only thing from these recent leaks that I haven't found yet.

Its the same song but a different version. Prince gave it to Martyn Ware to produce for Jills second PP album, and he did this along with 3 other tracks

Cool--I was just about to ask for more details--listening to the two versions right now. It didn't sound like Prince was responsible for this recording--I like it, but I also liked the two voices on the other version.

What were the other tracks? And might they be coming sometime soon, do you think?

Dont want to piss on anyones chips but thats all just someones speculation. Jill wasnt behind any of those tracks leaking

Exactly. All of the recent leaks have been in mono, at 128kbps. They've clearly come from the one source.

Also, there is far more interesting stuff in the vault that she could have leaked to get revenge/ notoriety.

.

I didn't necessarily say that Jill was the leaker.

.

Nor did I mean to suggest that it is a direct leak, rather than through multiple changes of hand.

.

And my speculation applied to only some of the leaks.

.

However, it is curious--fortuitous timing if nothing else-- that two recent leaks are demos or alternate versions of songs from her first and proposed second PP album (having openly leaked the other take of '4 Lust' a number of years ago), and a third rumored in the past to have been considered or worked on for JJ's first album ('Come Elektra Tuesday'), and she's been having some social media tantrums recently, and her complaint regarding 'Glamorous Life' being given to Sheila E and the appearance of a demo to that song for the first time in the history of non-elite trading (maybe the latter prompted the former, I didn't closely follow the timeline).

.

And 'Roadhouse Garden', '9 to 5 People', 'Eggplant' are not in mono or from the same sound source.

.

I have no idea on the other 3 tracks, other than they had no Prince involvement whatesoever. 4 Lust was the only track Prince gave him to produce. What would be interesting to leak would be the original demo Prince sent to martyn, which I believe wasnt the same as the duet demo that circulates

.

It began as his own song. Then a pseudo-duet (think 'Unforgettable') at an uncertain time, most likely mid/late 1987, although there is some suggestion that the version we had until recently was worked on for the first JJ album, which could redate the origins of the track signficantly (perhaps late 1986 - early 1987, if true). Then Clare Fisher overdubs in Early 1988 (it obviously didn't make the first album, if it was even recorded before its release). Sent to be dance-pop-newjackized by Martyn Ware in 1989, before the second album project appears to die completely in the Summer of 1989, when P's resources are stretched thin by GB, a MD/Time project, Margie Cox, in the context of any already strained emotional relationship with Jill.

I misread your post--I somehow read the "he" in "he did this..." as being Prince, not Ware. So, yeah, I'm not that interested now. I'm still interested some, because it's still Jill.

However, if you're right in your belief that there is another version that Prince sent Ware, then that would be cool to hear.

Just an aside--trying to find more information on this subject, I googled JJ and MW together--not much there, but at least one Heaven 17 fansite includes "4 Lust" on a members discography, listed as a "single on Paisley Park." Obviously not true, but I wonder how aware Ware's fandom has been of this song, since most of us hadn't heard of it until the earlier leak--and Princevault includes no mention of this version. I know they would consider a cover (maybe) or something, since there's no Prince involvement in the recording, but you think they'd say something if they knew it existed.

Very detailed and interesting observation, thanks. Posts like yours make the org a great place for those who are interested in the music and its details.

So you think the tape-baking at the Vault really happened?

I remember an interview with Hans Martin Buff from the 2000s and he said that the tapes were in dire need of baking and digitizing but nothing was happening at the time. Good to hear the opposite.

imprimis said:

Some of the obvious (and quite rare) ones are likely coming from Jill. ('Come Elektra Tuesday', '4 Lust', 'Glamorous Life' demo, 'Mia Bocca' demo, etc)

.

The rest, which have been documented for some time, were some of the ones bubbling just beneath the surface among well-connected traders in the past 15+ years, ones that managed never to make it from the tape traders to the commercial b-leggers in the late 1980s/early 1990s (throughout much of the 90s, the widely circulating studio work was a sizeable, but very fixed set, and new releases mainly concerned quality upgrades than entirely new outtakes or versions), and were held back in the late 1990s 'Thunderball' era when a different on-line grapevine variety of trading emerged. These are songs like 'By Alien Means', '9-to-5 People', 'Velvet Kitty Kat', 'Traffic Jam', 'My Loves Belongs to You', The Flesh session material, etc. There was a thriving scene for these ~1996-2001 or so, trading on DAT, MiniDisc, or even VHS-audio. Some of the very high-sound quality leaks are likely from the Vault tape-baking to digital conversion in PP the occurred in the mid-2000s.

.

I'm speaking as to the full-length, or non-?estlove recorded leaks (his obvious sources are found in Susannah/Eric Leeds/St Paul, and by now, perhaps the estate itself). He also seems to have the stems (multitrack converted files) for some of these.

.

Virtually everything that is discussed as a unique outtake or performance on PrinceVault (which is non-exhaustive, despite any representations otherwise) is circulating somewhere in the hands of the common (but well-connected) people.

.

There's a decent chance, considering recently leaked The Flesh 'album' is the bootlegger's capricious and spurious selections from those sessions (oddly missing the authentic polished mixing and overdubs that 'U Gotta Shake Something' evidenced when it was leaked on 'Studio Nights' decades ago), and this leak appears to be from the same tape source.

.

Partial leaks from someone who has a copy of the session tapes (the December 1985 half; work continued later in January 1986), not likely to be a/the legitimate demo album, if one was ever properly assembled (and even if these tracks made up such a demo album configuration).

.

Let's not forget JJ's backing on Come Elektra Tuesday.

And she recorded a later version of Rough in 86.

She's so related to a lot of the recent stuff...

She could be a source, not necessarly the leaker(s) himself .

So, while I'm enjoying these new leaks, it's bittersweet as can be.

We've had leaks for decades. How much of what was leaked was ever released officially? I rest my case.
