The Gospel according to Prince For those on the org. who are spiritually inclined, Christian or other wise, here is a wonderful article, penned by Minister Dexter Strong.
I am not sure which branch of the Church he represents, but its clear that he has a clear and broad vision that enables him to SEE beyond dogmatic and secular conceptions.
The great ethical demand of Christianity is to be compassionate, in touch, with our neighbor. Even God enfleshes God's self in order to touch humanity toward salvation. Prince's sultry call for more touch reminds us that there is divine meaning to be derived from the act of touching, and being touched.

This guy got P. He understood what most fans appreciate even if they don't subscribe to a certain spiritual path. Bravo!
Um I wish those inclined to judge P for his embracing sexuality...If you believe that there is a God...He invented sex, not P, so gtf over it and enjoy the INTENT of the musc. To uplift.

Nice the basic striving to Love has always been there under the message, whether it was muddied with other things or not at different times.

I always found Prince's songs of sex to NEVER push towards sex only. Sex always came across as an act which should feel holy, a spiritual as well as a carnal release. I don't think Prince blurred the line here, I think the line is already blurred if we do it right, and Prince only pointed this out.
BTW, wow at the hate in the comments on that article. Definatley made by people who understand very little about actually being human, and more about grazing as cattle. We are all so full of here

I think that may be true in some cases, but what about songs like Get Off. I think about the whole act he did in the yellow bottomless pants (1991 VMAs). That performance didn't seem to represent holiness or spirituality. Maybe he performed it not to express his own regard towards sex but the culture's. Just wondering what your thoughts are on that.

I will have to say, his ACT pushed towards entertainment and shock. But when I listen to only music and words, I hear it coming from a place where sex should be so good it is heavenly. Of course, the catalog is big, and when we go back to songs like Head and Sister, it seems to blow my argument all to shit. So, let me go back some and so maybe not ALL songs, but certainly many, when he seemed to know what a real relationship was still like.
Take for instance, the music to God, just the instrumental. It sounds elevating, holy. You could mediatate on God in that music. But you could also lay your partner down and get down to some serious love. We are all so full of here

What pisses me off is that people will read a violent book, watch a violent TV show or movie or listen to a song with violent lyrics but the second sex is mentioned, it's a problem. Priorities.

Very perceptive. Thanks for sharing that. I believe P had a deep love for God and because God created sex he had no qualms with combining both in his lyrics. I think his "hypersexuality" was due to being exposed to "erotic literature" at an early age. He spoke briefly about that in his interview with Chris Rock. He said being exposed to sexual literature so early changed him.
