Boni was great. Probably the best backup singer Prince ever had. She had some sort of chemistry with him that I never saw with Rosie Gaines or Shelby J, no matter how great they were.

I love this era. I've watched the Dortmund show at least twenty times since it's been on youtube.

I also love the fashion during this period, especially the bright oversized coats and metallic bra tops.

Could go on for years about how much I love this whole Lovesexy Movement, it was not an image, it was a Movement based around music, dance, art, fashion, videology. vibeology, androgyny, concept and sex. It was Prince as the consummate multi media artist.

It was just great, you had to be there, emmeshed in it.

Prince's unique gender fluid expression was ground breaking.

Some people were/are against it because of transphobic & homophobic views, but Prince did not care.

He kept on breaking social norms.

He was amazing and this important aspect of Prince must be lifted up.

The best era, together with SOTT.
The album is great and the tour was the best hands down. Witnessed three Lovesexy shows (twice in Rotterdam and the one in Dortmund) and from all live tours and concerts, I listen to the Lovesexy shows the most.

The setlist was great, the stage was brilliant, song arrangements were simply brilliant, Prince's sense of humor, the band on its best. No better show than a Lovesexy show. Prince peaked in this era.

Yeah, Cat was great and he never had another dancer that brought that kinda of energy to his shows. They had amazing chemistry onstage. She was totally right when she told Prince he and Mayte would never had what they had. That kind of moment in time(sott/lovesexy era) would be hard to replicate anyway. I love Mayte and think she is a good dancer but Prince and Cat onstage were just electricity together.

Hey did anyone on here go to the Westfalenhalle show in Dortmund? The one broadcast on TV across Europe. West German venue, read somewhere it was full of dutch fans for some reason.

This was my third concert and I loved it and the cd. No spaces, this was Prince's Sgt. Pepper! That car delivering him and taking him away was somethng else. His conversation with God rang so true. It goes back to my relating to the spirituality/sexuality paradox and turmoil, having been raised Catholic. Heck, I was married, but I thought I liked sex a little too much. LOL

And my heart still breaks thinking about his physical and emotional pain toward the end of his life. I kept thinking he must have felt that he let God down when he became addicted. I digress, and that's another thread.

Probably my least favorite Prince era. Didn't care much for the music. It does not get regular rotation in my play list. I've seen parts of some of the shows on YT and they were alright but to me did not compete with his previous tours. Dont hate me. It's a personal preference thing. P gave us so much variety that's what's great in the end. There is something for everyone.

That's true. It's a personal thing. Looking back, for me the consecutive tours from 1986 to 1990 were the best imo and I listen to them the most. But that's because I was at one or more concerts from those tours. Lovesexy is the best tour for me. 1992 for instance (D&P) was the least and I have hardly any recollection from that show.
But when I would have to make a list from the 1986 - 1990 tours, I would say:
1. Lovesexy
2. SOTT
3. Nude
4. Parade

The fidst two tours also had the best 'storyline', so to speak. And my worshiping Prince was at its peak in 1987-1988.

Yes, I feel very lucky indeed. The first show was great when I was standing front row and during the second show I was on the balcony (better view to witness all that was going around on stage). The stadium was lit up because of all the fireworks people brought.

The Lovesexy Room won't be ready at the Paisley Park Museum until 2017.

It's bound to be amazing and greatly complement the already wonderful Paisley Park Tour experience.

Love it. The album blew me away, I had never heard anything like it. Like someone said on a thread a while back, it defied any genre and created it's own. I missed the live shows and saw them on video. I was in awe of his creativity. It was kind of overwhelming in a way. Prince was otherworldly during this era, ethereal.

His band were amazing. I loved the costumes. Nobody was doing what he did, nobody could.

I remember I had just started High School when this album dropped. Thank God there was a Tower Record store by my school. I used to go in there every day staring at all the Prince CD's I would get one day when I eventually had the money. I was never able to get Prince's albums on time due to money issues, so it was a big deal when I was able to get LoveSexy the day it dropped. I still remember my high school sweetheart with fondness. I'll never forget that kid! He knew I loved Prince and gave me the money to buy it and because of that I was one of the first of my friends to get it. I was more into Prince than any of them as they didn't really follow him past the Purple Rain craze as I did. I cherished that album with everything in me. I remembered having to hide it from my mom because she hated Prince to begin with, so there was no way she was gonna let me get away with him being naked on the CD cover, lol. Man, I still remember this like it was yesterday. Such great memories with Prince...

Favorite songs have changed throughout the years though.

It used to be 'Alphabet Street' and 'Eye No'. Now it's 'LoveSexy' and 'Anna Stesia' and 'I Wish You Heaven'.

IMO there's a fine line between gender expression and just wanting to be outrageous for attention. Way back then even, I never got the vibe Prince was gay or transgender, and for ME he pushed the envelope too far since he was just playing a "role". It certainly wasn't a big deal though, I understand the value of "shock and awe" with publicity, etc. and continued being a bigtimefan!

Prince and Cat's chemistry is THROUGH THE ROOF...(when they performed "Head" during the tour )

I Wish U Heaven used to come on almost every morning when I was getting ready for school (It was in heavy rotation on VH1 and VH1 Classic early mornings about 10yrs ago for some reason)

Due to living in Australia I didnt have the oppurtunity to see any of the Liveshows around this era.

As for the LoveSexy Album.

Well, what I liked about the series of albums throughout the 80"s was they were all an interesting departure and progression from what proceeded them and from each other.

Every album in my oppinion felt interesting because they all had an element of freshness , as you started going through them back in the day, all of them made u kinda go ...oh wow this is differrent.

SOTT, was way different to Parade, and then after SOTT, LoveSexy achieved that feeling of separteness and definitly stands alone as a fresh and interesting album.

LoveSexy was an overall great album , not every track was a gem, but the album balanced out well and made a statement. I cant say that for every album during the 90"s but I feel I can for the 80"s

albums.

The dot clothes, the hair, the incredible Dortmund and Rotterdam shows, the album cover breaking barriers, the amazing songs, and my favorite lyric ever:

I was never able to attend these shows as I was really young and lived far away from Europe. How I wish I could have been there...

It's hard to understand that chemistry.
It was suggested that there was a a lot of sarcasim betweent the two, a lot of joking and to what degree...

She took off right after Lovesexy was done and went to Australia I believe, Cat took off to London

What really happened in that 1989 period is still a bit of a mystery

I remember we had a sound check in Europe and Boyer was a little late. Prince had on this green two-piece outfit with the alphabet on it. She was late and Prince said "Boni, you're late" and she had on silk pajamas. He said "Don't come on my stage and sound check with those silk pajamas on." Then, Boyer looked at me and Sheila E. --or me and Levi Seacer-- and she said "Yeah, but, you're wearing green pants with the alphabet on them."
We started laughing and we laughed so hard. She made everyone laugh. She was so confident. She was a great singer and a great musician. She could carry her own; she was awesome, funny and raw. I miss her, she was my best friend.

This is the era that brought in a more continuous 'purple' religion or the more definative beginning of Prince and a heavier 'religious' philosophy

YES!!!!!! Cat was THE BOMB. She and Prince were HAWT!!!! None of his subsequent dancers ever came close to Cat. A lot of people try to write Cat out of P's legacy, but she WAS LoveSexy and SOTT. I believe he wrote "Hot Thang" for her. And, I think he had a MAJOR thing for Cat, but for some reason, they never went public.

I also think that time Prince spent "trying to keep up with Cat," as some writers have said about the SOTT and LoveSexy tours, made Prince an even better dancer.

There were no venues available in the Netherlands for that particular date. So he brought in a Dutch director to shoot the show ans an audience to match accordingly. The sales for the tickets went to the Netherlands which led to some minor issues. But that had nothing to do with P, that was just another opportunity for some people in Germany and the Netherlands to fight over totally different and older issues. Some people never learn.
As it all is on tape, everyone can see that P had a good point to arrange things the way he wanted it:
I was at another show in the Westfalenhalle in 1990 during the Nude Tour. Although there were -again- lots of Dutch people present, this time the majority of the audience was German. And there was a big difference in the way Dutch and German attendants reacted to his music and his calling and answering. So I must say that I fully understood P's choice from two years earlier. Although on the other hand: people in Germany can sct a lot cooler than the sometimes frantic reactions from some Dutch people. I remember almost being trampled upon during concerts in the Netherlands while in Germany the atmosphere was totally relaxed. So it has two sides.
